Good morning! I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend! Every year since they were tiny the girls and I make gingerbread houses. We’ve bought quite a few different kits over the years and have found some work better than others and we have so much fun doing it but I have to say I don’t think we’ve ever had any that actually turned out very pretty – haha! Trader Joe’s has this A-Frame kit that I really love and this year I decided to “cheat” a bit and see if I could make one that looked a little bit cuter than years past. I always struggle getting the icing to look delicate so I used some puff paint to trim my doorway and add some little dots instead of icing and it definitely worked much better – haha! I used all of the gingerbread from the kit but didn’t use any of the candy (which was fine – the girls just added my extra candy to theirs!) Instead I used some sliced almonds and a little cinnamon stick for the top and then accented that with a little greenery from the yard. I used a glue gun to glue the almonds onto the roof to look like little shingles. And then I used them for the walkway too. I added some icing to look like snow and sprinkled the whole thing with some confectioners sugar. It quite easy and so much fun and I didn’t mind that I couldn’t snack on it because I still had a couple of other gingerbread houses to eat – we’ve been pulling the candy off the girls’ houses all week – haha! I made another one with a shredded wheat cereal roof but I didn’t take any photos of that one.

I photographed it over on the island to have the twinkling lights of the tree behind it in the photos but it actually has been residing all week over here on the counter to the left of our stove.
