Good morning! I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend! As promised, today I am going to share a quick little video tutorial on how to make both of these cupcakes. And then later this week I am hoping to finish up one for the tulips style ones. For today though I am going to start with two of the easiest style flower cupcakes out there!

First up we have the hydrangea. I love that this one looks much more complicated that it actually is. It looks like quite a bit more effort goes into it but it is actually really easy and just requires a basic tip that can be purchased just about anywhere online and often even at grocery stores, Target, Walmart,  craft stores, etc. The tip you use for this one is called a 2D drop flower tip. (I also highly recommend this set. It’s the best price and these are the three tips I use by far the most!)

And then the two little bits of advice I would give are to make your buttercream a bit on the stiff side for the hydrangeas. As I have mentioned before, I just make basic American buttercream (and I am afraid I don’t really use a recipe or really even measure for that, I just whip together cold butter, powdered sugar, a hint of vanilla and a few splashes of milk  to get it to a consistency I like) When I am icing a cake it’s easier to work with when it’s a little on the creamier side but for hydrangeas the shape will hold better if it’s a little more on the stiff side. And then the second tip I have is to give them a bit more of a realistic look you can do them in two tones. You can see how to do that in the video. And it’s definitely not necessary! I’ve made them several times in just one color tone (in fact you can see a couple of examples of those here and here). But I think it’s a nice touch to give them a little variation in color.

So here is the hydrangea video:

And then next up is the basic rose tutorial. This is a VERY basic swirly rosette. Not a detailed rose like we’ve been playing around with on this cake or these ones.  This is probably the single easiest thing to start with if you are a beginner. It’s simple and it looks so elegant and pretty! It is also a nice simple design to try on a cake and it really dresses it up! For this you will want to use a 1M open star tip (which is also in this set).

I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!
