Hello! This week I tackled making over our pantry. I had been planning on doing this since shortly after we moved in because I really wanted to utilize this space better. I kept putting it off though because I was nervous about how I was going to make it work. I finally decided to give it a go this week though and I am so glad I did! I even ended up cleaning out every single kitchen cabinet too and reorganized everything so it’s much more functional for our family. It always feels good to start the new year feeling organized. I know everyone is different, but I have always found that for me, if a space is visually appealing it is so much easier for me to keep it organized.

Here was our pantry before. It was a nice size – about 49″ by 38″ or so but I didn’t feel like all the space was usable. It was convenient when we moved in that there already was shelving in it, but I felt like the way they were in there the back wall just ended up being empty wasted space. I figured if I could build shelves that wrapped from the left wall around to the back wall it would give me quite a bit more storage space.

And here it is now:

I posted step by step photos of the entire process of how I built it in our stories on Instagram and saved them to our highlights so if you are interested in seeing the process you can click here.  I painted everything Debonair by Sherwin Williams. It’s hard to see the color properly in most of these photos. Because there isn’t any natural light in the pantry it was quite difficult to get the photos to turn out okay. I had been leaning towards going with the same Soot color from Benjamin Moore that I used in our laundry room but the girls voted for a lighter blue and I am glad we went this route. It reminds me so much of a color in my beloved uncle’s kitchen so it now makes me smile every time I walk by it and brings back fond childhood memories.

Pretty much all the baskets and storage bins I have had for years including the one hanging on the door. In fact, most of them have been in at least four different pantries now – haha! They are from a mix of places including HomeGoods, World Market and Target. I did purchase the lazy susans and tiered stand for the corners of the shelving but other than that used all items we already were using for food storage. We’ve been using the airtight containers for a few years now and love them so much. The cereal ones are my favorite!  The copper footed colander can be found here. Our Dog food canister can be found here (although the price has  up from when we bought it a while ago). The canisters holding our flour, sugars and oatmeal can be found here. And the smaller canisters holding our chocolate chips can be found here. The canisters with the wooden tops are no longer available but these ones are similar.

I played around with where I was putting everything quite a bit and even switched things around a bit midway through taking these photos which is why a few things might be swapped around in a few of the photos. I think I finally had it all figured out though now that I am about to head to bed.

Well, that’s it for today! Below is a source list for pretty much everything from the pantry – if it’s not listed then it was either a gift or I’ve had it so long I don’t remember where it was from.
