Sorry  – I have been a bit behind on blogging! We have been busy painting though and should have some new things to show you soon. We are almost done painting the upstairs hallway (the walls and trim are done, I’m just finishing up the doors) and have finished up with the doors and trim in the first guest bedroom and I’m hoping to paint the walls in there tonight. I also found a sideboard yesterday at a consignment shop so I can’t wait to add that to our dining room. And I think I may have found a hutch for in there as well, although I haven’t decided on that for sure yet. I also need to photograph our window treatment in the kitchen above the sink that I made several weeks ago as well as several of our new Christmas products. Now that we are starting painting the upstairs I thought that we would do a little recap of the progress we’ve made downstairs. Except for the family room, we still have projects left in all these spaces but they at least look quite a bit more fresh and updated then when we moved in!
First, here is the kitchen. We still plan on replacing the counters and the sink and when we do that we will have the counter overhang on the peninsula so we can add some counter height stools.

This room is the only room that I would consider pretty much done for the time being. Well, no room is ever “done” and I am sure I will switch things up in here but the big projects in here are finished for now:

This room still have quite a ways to go but I am so excited about the chandelier and the beadboard wallpaper below the chair rail. I’ve been hunting on Craigslist and all the local consignment shops for a while now for a sideboard and hutch and finally found a sideboard at a consignment shop yesterday! I’d love to eventually get a different table for in here and someday wallpaper the upper half of the walls but so far haven’t found a paper that I love that’s not ridiculously expensive.

This room we did the least in. It’s hard to tell in these photos but the walls were actually a light peachy pink color so I painted them but that’s all I have done for painting in here at this point.

Here is part of the entryway hall. Once the dated wallpaper came down I painted and painted and painted in here all the way around the corner and up the stairs:

I just need to replace the light fixture and add artwork/photos going up the stairs. I still haven’t decided on whether or not I will be painting the railing.

I still need to add artwork in here but it feel so much cleaner in here now!

And here is the one room upstairs that we’ve done. I wanted the girls to feel at home as soon as we moved in so this was one of the first spaces we worked on (after the kitchen).

I am so excited to get to work on the other bedrooms upstairs and the bathrooms! I’d better get back to my paintbrush…

  1. Hard at work, as usual;) Hope you are managing to fit sleep in there somewhere! I'm looking for a sideboard for our dining room too, no luck as of yet. Can't wait to see yours as well as all your updates. Thanks for the sale, placed my first order for a Thanksgiving print. We are hosting this year and I have the perfect place in mind for it:)

  2. Jennifer, don't ever apologize for not blogging. Your family comes first. I love the transformations you have shared on your home so far and am grateful you are gracious enough to share the process, paint colors, etc.
Still cheering you on in the painting department. We had to teosinte every room in a house we had in PA years ago, so I know how you feel. Isn't it funny how just a little paint can transform a space and how it makes you feel in it? Have a blessed day!

  3. Happy Monday! Thanks to YOU it is! Thank you for the Sale. Congratulations on 20,000 likes/love on FB! I believe your new home is beaming with pride! It was dreaming of someone like you, to love and appreciate all its character and charm. You brought it back to life! The transformation is awe-inspiring.

  4. Absolutely amazing! You have worked so hard, and it is paying off, it is gorgeous! I look forward to seeing your future projects, as I know they will be beautiful also.
    God Bless,
    Kimberlee

  5. I've seen this in bits and pieces, and have been impressed with what you've accomplished. But when you outline it all here, I have to express how much I appreciate your work! Fifteen years ago, my husband and I moved into a house decorated from the 1970s. Trim, wallpaper, flooring… all needed DIY. It's a lot of work, but the payoffs are wonderful. Your posts here bring back wonderful (in hindsight) memories. The end result is romanticized, but don't think your hours and hours of plain ol' hard work have gone unnoticed. 🙂

  6. Absolutely gorgeous- and wow the amount of work you have put into making your home so lovely. You are doing a wonderful job and should be sp proud of this transformation. It's one thing to have a home decorated nicely, I do believe its another to have it also photograph well. Yours does both and then some. Thank you for sharing your how to's and your journey. I am beyond inspired by all your efforts.

  7. I'm so mad I missed the sale! I have like 5 things in my cart for the holidays and have been waiting for either a sale or to get some extra $$! I'm blaming it on my extra studying this week that I didn't check the blog yesterday…..bummer.

  8. Your house looks so beautiful! I can't get over how much you've done already. We gutted our porch last weekend. We're going to vault the ceiling and plank it and then plank the walls too. Hopefully, it doesn't go at a snail's pace 🙂

  9. What an absolutely amazing transformation! I see the two new lights above the peninsula, but wondered if you're going to put up a light fixture above the kitchen table where there was an old one, and what you may have in mind.
    Thanks,
    Pam

  10. You have worked so hard and your home looks amazing! You have such a knack for decorating and I love seeing it all come together.

  11. I am amazed at how much you have gotten done. I am struggling with getting things finished in our house. I am very interested in your chandelier and have been looking for a long time for one that looks like that and is affordable. Are your ceilings 8ft? I got the measurements and it seems big for my ceiling height. Thank you!

    1. Yes, our ceilings are 8 ft. And yes, it's probably a bit oversized for 8 ft ceilings but I don't mind that (my aunt has the same one and her ceilings are 9 or actually probably even 10 ft which is probably more proportionate for something this size!)

  12. Your house is beautiful and is coming along so fast!!! Quick question I noticed you painted your spindles white. This is a project I just took on. I have almost 100 to do. Can you tell me the best way to tackle them. I've done the first 20 and it's taken forever. Also the finish isn't as smooth as I had hoped. Please any advice is very much appreciated!!! Thank you so very much!

    1. Thank you! I wish I had some good advice but I have to say it took forever for me too! It was awful – haha! And I still have a bunch to do up in the girl's playroom – ugh! I was pretty pleased with the overall finish. What type of paint did you use? And what finish? I used BM's aura line in the semi-gloss finish.

  14. I have enjoyed your blog often (i find myself pinning your stuff on Pinterest constantly!). Well, today, while struggling for inspiration for our new house, I ran across your family room/kitchen before and afters and was shocked at how similar ours is to yours. Immediately after the shock I was giddy with delight and started pinning EVERYTHING you did to those two rooms! My plans for ours are similar to what you've done but I was having a really hard time not feeling overwhelmed with the task and was unable to clearly see where I wanted it all to go. Your pics gave me clarity! Yay!!!! All I have right now are 'before' pics but now I can clearly imagine what the 'after's might look like. Thank you!
