As many of you know, I LOVE chalkboards. I normally just use my normal cursive handwriting and then just add some swirls and thicken some of the lines. This time, though, I wanted to venture a little more out of my comfort zone. I sketched it out on paper first and then lightly wrote with chalk on the chalkboard first and then once I got it how I wanted it I went over it with a chalk pen. I did this a few weeks ago when little Lola was sick and so did more than half of it with her snuggled up on my lap so there are quite a few spots where I don’t like how my hand “flowed” for the swirls but it’s hard to properly swirl when you are trying to not wake a baby. =) Of course, it wasn’t until I was almost done that I was singing the song version of this verse and noticed I wrote “Almighty” instead of “Mighty” – ahhhhh! I wanted to cry! This took considerably longer than my normal chalkboards and I just couldn’t bring myself to start over! So, sorry about the wrong word. All in all, it was fun and I think I am going to try my hand at another one like this again soon.
You can see some of the original chalk marks I wrote and some smudging from the tons of writing and erasing and writing and erasing that I did. =)
I shared a couple of shots of our family room during the Christmas Tour last Monday but here are the rest of them:
I added some greenery to the girls toy basket in the corner too, but that lasted about 24 hours. =)
Also, we are happy to say that we have restocked our Briar Hats in Ivory!
I hope you all have a lovely week! I’ll be back next with a tutorial. All the photos are edited and ready to go I just need to write it up!
Absolutely stunning!! I love it all. You are amazing! Thanks for sharing. xo
Chalkboard looks so awesome, cant believe you did it free hand. You are too hard on yourself! And also, I don't think it's wrong- Handel's Messiah wording is "Almighty" and also many scripture versions. So you're good!
I am SO impressed by that chalkboard! It's stunning! I wish something that pretty were hanging in my house. 🙂
Just Beautiful Jennifer!!!!
Oh, Jennifer, your chalkboard is breathtaking! And Rebecca is right, some translations use "Almighty"! Personally, I like it better that way! But, what I would love, is if you would make your chalkboards (especially this one!) available for download–I would gladly pay to have this in my home!!
Me too! This chalkboard is beautiful!
Ange
Thank you! Hopefully we will be offering some of our chalkboard designs soon! We've been working on them but haven't gotten them quite right.
Just gorgeous as always. I just don't see how you do it!! Your handwriting alone is killer. And then the big picture of your house? On fiiiyah. I adore you. Thanks for being my girl crush.
I love the chalkboard ! It may be my favorite.
Te chalkboard is AMAZING- I tried to write on a canvas and it was a total flop 🙂 so I appreciate how amazing and hard that is! You are very gifted!
You have the most beautiful handwriting I have seen especially on chalkboards. What chalkboard pens do you use? Does it come off easily like regular chalk? Please share! Thanks!
I have bought mine at a whole bunch of places (I go through them quickly…haha!) I've gotten them online at Amazon and on Etsy and bought them at Joann's and a store called Twin Elm Farm in NH. I have some chalkboards that they do come off (with a bit of scrubbing) and others that recently have left a "ghost mark" so on those I just addded another coat of the chalkbaord paint.
Your chalkboard writing is gorgeous! Wow. And I love the phrase you chose for it. Beautiful home. <3
Looks amazing! I love the graphic quality of this chalkboard.
Ciao, sono una tua fans!!!ho copiato la tua scitta e oggi l'ho pubblicata!!! spero non ti dispiaccia!!!!complimenti hai una famiglia meravigliosa e una casa splendida!!! baci!!!
Tutto molto bello!!! Baci dall'Italia JERRY
Your chalkboard graphic is awesome!! You have some serious handwriting/lettering skills!! Awesome!
You are too hard on yourself. I love the chalkboard and quote you chose. I also like the use of the word almighty and agree with the others. Your freehand writing is just lovely; as well as your home. I have always been a big fan if your decorating style ever since I found your blog.
Oh my goodness your Christmas Decor is breathtaking, I absolutely adore your chalkboard you're writing is so beautiful! I often try to write like you but often fail miserably! I have one question though the little pine cone Christmas tree, did you make it or buy it? It's so cute!
One other thing I love the little Christmas tree on your breakfast bar is it real?
Thanks xxx
Thanks! The pine cone tree is from Target. I got it a couple of years ago. The little Christmas tree is faux and from Ballard Designs. I got it last year and really was impressed by it!
Hi!I'm Micol from Italy!I've found your blog now and I think it's wonderful!Ciao Micol
Oh my gosh, just got the email with the Christmas boards- looooooove!!!
And I think almighty and mighty are pretty synonymous, so I think you're golden there. Absolutely love the whole chalkboard. It's gorgeous! 🙂
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
Your holiday decor is so warm, cozy and inviting! And your chalkboard sign is wonderful…"Almighty" is still true anyway!
This is beautiful – I am honestly so amazed at not only your talent in design, but your ability to take such breathtaking pictures that totally capture the essence of your design too. I feel like I'm a perma-pinner of everything Dear Lillie. 🙂
So gorgeous- you beautiful handwriting is a gift! Tell me again where you get the chalkboard pens? -Anna

I appreciate that you don't want to misquote scripture. But I don't think He minds being referred to as Almighty! It really looks beautiful.
Thanks, Nancy! I wouldn't have minded getting a quote wrong, but I hated misquoting a verse. See you soon!
your chalkboard is absolutely wonderful….think you are missing out on a bus venture to have these printed out "poster size"….you can design something for every season…I am sure you'll have many orders….I want the first one.Kathy.
We've been working on a chalkboard we can sell for quite a while now! We will be making seasonal ones – they will be screenprinted so they will be permanent but will look like chalkboards. We had hoped to have them available this holiday season but haven't gotten it to look quite how we want it to yet. Hopefully very soon, though!
That is a great idea! I will take the second. In your spare time, Jenni.
I can not believe your talent!! The fact that you free-handed those beautiful words is AMAZING!! It honestly looks like it's printed right from a print shop. So wish I had that gift! Not to mention, your entire home is STUNNING. Such a big fan of yours. Thanks for all the beautiful inspiration!!
Love the chalk board and writing! Just wanted to let you know that I discovered a terrific way to easily write on chalk boards. Simply print out what you want in a beautiful font from the computer. Take the paper and either tape it to a window on the back side or use a lightbox if you have one. Trace lettering with chalk. Place chalk side down on the chalk board and then trace lettering again. This will faintly transfer the design to the chalk board. Then you can either go over the design on the chalk board with regular chalk or chalk pens. The result is so awesome. I tried to get Miss Mustard Seed to try this about 2 years ago. She liked the idea, but I never saw a post about it. Since I don't have a blog, I can't demonstrate. Please try it for yourself. Anyone can have beautiful "handwriting" on chalk boards – if they know the secret. Truly, you are only limited by your imagination. Happy chalk board writing!
Words cannot describe how beautiful your home is and the chalkboard art is magnificent!!!

Hello. I am new to your blog. LOVE your chalkboard art. It is just beautiful!
One small question, I would like to know where you purchased the 3-tier wire stand (the one with the beautiful pears and flowers)?
Thank you, Marilyn in Texas
