Good morning! Today I am excited to share with you our Light Blue Laundry Room with Shaker Pegs. This was a fun makeover and quite a bit more colorful than my usual spaces. My girls both wanted me to do lighter colors in this house and this was a great spot to do a light blue. I actually used the leftover paint from Lola’s room for the blue (Upward by Sherwin Williams) for the lower part of the walls and all of the trim and cabinets.
This space was like pretty much all of the spaces in this house. A great size, but about as boring and basic as it gets – just kind of a gray box. Here is the before:
The goal for me was to make the space more functional, add storage and add some character to the room. Here is that same angle now:
Another before angle:
The very first thing I did was trim out the window:
Then I added board and batten, a shelf, lots of shaker pegs and some wallpaper. After that I added a countertop and some storage. For the counter I used bracing pieces on the wall near the window as well as the back wall and then in the middle between the washer and dryer lined up two Billy book cases from IKEA one behind the other (I didn’t put the back cardboard piece on the one in front so that I could use the full depth of the two bookcases lined up and then added an Oxberg door). On the right side I just made a little wall with some plywood and a little trim. Then for the top I used a piece of plywood (this one here) and trimmed it out to give it a more finished look and stained it with Golden Oak.
Here is a little video of the process:
Once I’d finished with all the difficult parts like adding all of the trim, building the shelf, building the counter and painting and wallpapering it was time for the fun part of adding all the finishing touches like swapping out the light fixture, adding a rug and some new baskets and making a skirt to dress up the utility sink a bit.
One more before:
And now:
One of my favorite little accessories in this space is the acrylic dryer sheet box – looks so much prettier than the cardboard box they come in but is just as functional and easy to use. And I love these glass jars that each came with two little scoopers!
The gold shelf rail is the same one we used in our kitchen and adds a finishing touch to the shelf area.
I took these pictures on two different days so played around with the pegs a bit which is why they are styled a bit differently in some of them. This is how I left it though:
We’ve done shaker pegs in our last two laundry rooms and I’ve loved them so was happy to use them again in this laundry room.
Here’s a little look into the two Billy bookcases that are lined up between the washer and dryer. Because there was a little gap between the front and back shelves I cut some backing board and attached that to kind of join the front and back shelf and then covered that with some leftover wallpaper. Kind of hard to explain and not my best work, but definitely makes it much more functional getting to use the full depth of the two joined bookcases.
Here are some wide angles shots:
I hope you all have a lovely Sunday and a great week ahead!
