This past December my sister Jamie, and her husband Josh, moved up to the town where my parents and brother live. They had always hoped to move up there eventually and had the opportunity to purchase a home that had belonged to our dear Uncle Bob. The house is absolutely loaded with character and charm and I cannot wait to slowly be able to share more and more rooms as Jamie makes progress on updating them for her family.
The first space that she has been working on is the kitchen and family room. The cabinets and woodwork and trim were all painted a brilliant blue color. It worked perfectly for our uncle and his style (in fact any time I see anything anywhere in that color I immediately think of him!) but it was a little bold for their overall style so she has spent several weeks painting all of that blue white. (However, she is planning on adding lots of blue back into the room – I’ll explain that further down). Once she did that the first thing she needed was a rug for this space and we fell in love with this one from RugsUSA. It is absolutely beautiful. In fact, once it arrived and our mom and Jamie’s mother-in-law saw it they both ended up buying this exact rug for different spots in their homes! The antique style and pattern make it perfect for kids and hiding stains and the soothing colors are so beautiful. It is a thin rug so you will probably want to add a rug pad underneath for a little more cushion if it’s in a spot you will be spending a lot of time sitting/laying/playing on it.
In Jamie and Josh’s last house they used a lot of warm earth tones so for right now the room looks like this because it’s pretty much all the stuff just moved over from their last family room. However, because they are adding lots of blue into the kitchen side of this room (for instance she has already painted the kitchen island Hale Navy which looks gorgeous and she’s got some blue wallpaper coming for the entryway which is right off the kitchen) this shot is really just more of a progress shot showing how it looks with their existing stuff. She’s got a white slipcover coming for the sofa and we’ve found some beautiful blue pillows and some fun navy striped curtains. We’ve got a beautiful piece of minted artwork that’s got lots of rich blue tones that we are going to add and she’s going to be painting the walls a light blue color and then we are on the hunt for a large navy ottoman. Once she makes those changes we may add a rug with some more navy tones in it and move this rug into her master bedroom because it looks so beautiful with her bedding and the colors she is using in there.
Anyway, we are excited to show you these progress shots but even more excited to show more pictures once we get the room a little further along and are able to add all the blue touches that are so reminiscent of our Uncle Bob.
We also have lots of St. Patrick’s Day and Easter prints in stock!
