The girls and I spent last week in New Hampshire with my family. There is nothing more beautiful than autumn in New England. I hated leaving! We worked on a few small projects at my parent’s new house including playing around with the mantel. We used all items that they had already so it was completely free!
They had quite a few faux pumpkins from years past in a mix of colors so we painted them all ballet white to coordinate nicely on the mantel. The leaves were freshly cut – I love how bright they are!
This is my Great Uncle Bob and was done back in 1940! (There’s a coordinating one of his brother, my grandfather, that’s in another room that I’ll show later this week.)
Originally we couldn’t find any orange branches low enough to cut so we used these ones that were a bit more dull until we got the orange ones. I liked how they looked but think the orange one pull out the background of the picture of Uncle Bob better.
I hope you all had a lovely weekend!
Nothing like a New England Autumn. The colours and the feel of the air is so unique. Miss it, but I must say, North Central Florida has a charm all it's own 🙂
Luvly mantel.
Cheers, Gee
Hi Jennifer, I am a new follower and so glad I stumble across your blog. It is so inviting and lovely! You are so right…I find that decorating our homes with the things that come free are the most memorable especially when our children can take part in it! I will be visiting again!

It looks great. I love both yellow and orange. Come do my mantle next.
I think that mantel is WONDERFUL!
Love your styling! It's amazing how good branches and leaves can look and they are free!
This mantel is beautiful! I have to admit, my first thought at seeing the little boy picture was of your sweet cousin…this looks just as I remember him looking in your post in memory of him. Sending prayers of comfort to you and your family. Still remembering him and hoping for strength and healing for all who knew him.
Happy Fall to you and yours!
It's lovely. Things lose my attention that aren't simple enough, and this is beautiful. How long will the branches last that way?
Hm…I'm in Arizona, and I still have to wait a while for leaves to look like that! :S
I'm not entirely sure. When I've used branches with green leaves if I don't put them in water they only last a day or two. If I put them in water they will last about a week or so.
I really love your site.. Pleasant colors & theme. Dіԁ yοu cгeate

Beautiful mantel…I am sure your parents are so very pleased with what you had done…
Just Beautiful!! Here in Michigan the leaves are sooo beautiful. It seems like the reds are super red:) Love the mirror to:)
Isn't it just so cool how nature provided the most stunning thing you could possibly find to put on the mantel. I wasn't even sure the leaves were real they are so perfect! Love the painting of your uncle too… wow, from the 1940's. I bet it's fun to see that and compare family resemblances…

I am always so inspired by your beautiful decorating style. Your mantel is simple and the orange leaved branches compliment your uncles picture perfectly. Fall Blessings!
