Hello! This is Jamie, Jenni’s sister, and I’m back to work at Dear Lillie after an extended maternity leave…or so I’m calling it. Several years ago, I used to break my back from 11-Noon Monday through Friday shipping packages and such, but I’ve spent the last few years having two sweet little girls who keep me pretty busy.

About six months ago, we sold the house we built (And as I always say, by “we” I mean my husband and his parents- there’s not a lot of me in that we) and had the incredible blessing of being able to move into a home that our whole family loves and is so happy to keep in the family- Bluestone Hill, the beloved home of our Uncle Bob, whom we all miss dearly.

Although he was our great uncle, we thought of him as a bonus grandfather. He was always ready to share his beautiful, tidy pool and patio with a passel of energetic grandnieces and nephews, pitch in for braces he heard were needed or lessons someone wanted to take, and spend the time to read and make notes and suggestions on my college papers. And he always had a soda and Pepperidge Farm cookies ready when we visited. Being able to raise our daughters in his beloved home and watch them play in his idyllic backyard that I have my own childhood memories of is something I never could have even dreamed of a couple years ago.

Most of the memories from this house are good ones, but the bedroom held ones that I would rather forget, as I’m sure our relatives who lived close by would agree. Our uncle spent his last month there, and the room felt very heavy to me, even though it was actually a fairly light color. The walls were white and the trim was a deep yellow. It was not the first room I painted, but it was one of the most important to me. We went with Benjamin Moore Hale Navy, which I had already used on the island in the kitchen and loved. We painted the trim White Dove, which we have used on all trim so far throughout the house. Here are a couple photos of the bedroom back when the lilacs were blooming-I will share some more photos of the bedroom next week.

*All of the exterior details were existing, so I’m not sure of the front door paint color.

  1. Wishing you beautiful memories in your new home! You can rest assured your Uncle Bob is still there in spirit, approving each and every change you make to make this your family's special place. Surely he would feel his home could not have been in better hands! Your sentiments about him and his home in your own childhood are a beautiful testament to him and you have honored him so wonderfully!

  2. I have been following Bluestone Hill on IG and so love your amazing images of your home….how so very special to be able to live in a home that you have fond memories of…both of the home and your beloved Uncle Bob. Looking forward to more photos of the bedroom!

  3. Beautiful bookshelves, I'm saving this pic in the hope that I can talk my husband into building some like them in our master bedroom, oh how I would love them.
