Chalkboard Frame

 

Since Christmas I have just had some random things over here on this
little wall between our family room and kitchen. In early February I
moved our little hot chocolate station over here for easier access and so I could decorate in the dining room. I
will probably keep it out just another week or two and then once the warmer weather is here for good I will put it away.
I think Lillie will be quite disappointed seeing when the chocolate bits are moved and she won’t be able to “sneak” any more. I haven’t let her in on the fact that if she asks to “sneak” two chocolate chips it kind of makes it not sneaking. =)

I was torn on what to put above here since I moved everything around in the fall. I had a canvas of the girls over
here the past month or so but it wasn’t the right size. I had a few ideas for something I
could make but then when I was cleaning the garage I found an old framed
poster and figured I could add some chalkboard paint to it while I was
cleaning. And sure enough, by the time the garage was clean I had
something new to hang on that little wall! Yay! It will probably be
temporary until I can do the larger project I have it mind but for now I
really like how it looks. Especially seeing how our other chalkboard
wall (you can see the whole post here) is really more for Lillie:

 Anyway, here is the old framed poster that was in the garage. (I had painted the frame a few years ago).

First I taped around the edge and rubbed some sandpaper on the poster in hopes it would flatten out the bubbles and make the paint adhere easier although I doubt it was necessary:

Then my helper rolled on the paint and I trimmed the edges.

Nice and simple and best of all FREE!

I feel like our family room is starting to feel more complete!

We got e-mails asking what we used for our hot cocoa station when we showed it back in January. There are two types of cocoa, marshmallows, white chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and vanilla.

 The Bunny Silhouette Pillow Cover in our family room is now for sale in our shop! My sister, Jamie sketched out this adorable bunny for us! I love how it turned out. Perfect for Easter and spring! I also think it would be adorable in a nursery.

The Bunny Silhouette is also available as a paper cutout!

It’s available in two different sizes and along with cream, is also available in a variety of pastel colors!

    Could you do a post about that gorgeous chair in your family room the bunny pillow is displayed on? Maybe you have in the past and I might have missed it but it is awesome! Cannot wait to get my bunny pillow cover! Thank you!

    1. I will check and see if I can find the "before" shot of that chair. It was a orange velvet with cigarette holes in it. I think we paid around $20 for it at an antique mall in Indiana. I don't have the original pictures on this computer but I might have them saved on a disc. If I can find them I will do a post on the transformation of that chair.

    1. Thank you! Lillie has always been really good about not touching things like that, however, I have to say now that Lola is starting to crawl and pull herself up on things she is starting to get into everything. I am guessing I will have to start moving things soon…she's turning into quite the little mischief maker =)

      Oh my goodness! I just checked out Dana's site. She is extraordinary! Seriously – absolutely AMAZING! Not only is her chalk writing flawless so is her graphic design.

      And lastly don't worry – unless the girls are in bed or napping our hosue is often a disaster. =)

  20. I love your handwriting! My chalkboard frame turned out just okay. The chalk doesn't write that well on it actually. Wonder if 3 coats isn't enough.

    Love your sense of style and so thankful for your blog! I am a freak about my writing, but I can do NOTHING like what you've done with your boards. Got any tips? Do you base it off a certain font, or just do it yourself? I'm jealous and want to be that good! 🙂

    1. Thanks! I wish I had some good tips but really it's just lots and lots of practice. I have enjoyed writing since I was little so it's just kind of my own made up little font and I wing it as I go. =) I know that's not much help though. =(

  27. Can you please tell me a little more about your curtains in your kitchen and family room. I believe we have a similar style window with the smaller windows above the main windows. I see you list Penny's, but there are several pinch- pleat panels. I believe these are white, but I am not positive. I would most appreciate the information. Thank you!

    1. Honestly, I got them for our last house years ago so I can't remember the name or exact color of them. I think the word "supreme" was in the name but that's all I really remember (it was long before I knew about blogging so I didn't think to keep track of that type of info). They are not a true white. More of a soft white or a very light ivory. Hope that helps a little.

I purchased some downloads and remembered a few years back you posted a tutorial for your "coffee stained" chalkboard frame that you used to insert the chalkboard prints into. the frame was large enough to insert the 24×36 print. Can you tell me if this tutorial is still available on your blog?
