Good afternoon! I’ve shared some views of these gingerbread houses on our kitchen shelf in our stories on Instagram but also wanted to share some photographs of them here on the blog.
Back in October when we shared the pictures of the little makeover we gave the area above our kitchen sink we explained how when we first saw this house I immediately ruled it out because I really disliked the sink being on a wall without a window. After we struck out on all the other houses we’d been looking at though and time was running out, we came back to this one and I tried to visualize what I could do inexpensively to make this wall seem more appealing. We found out that there actually was supposed to have been a window here but there had been some error when it was being built and although the builder wouldn’t add it back in for us they did agree to swap out the shorter cabinets for slightly taller ones to match the ones on the right and to retile and we got to pick a tile from ones that they had in stock. They wouldn’t tile above the cabinets for us so we requested they just tile part way above the sink and I would add a shelf there once we moved in. This was a “market ready” home so we didn’t get to choose any of the design elements or finishes but it was nice that we were able to swap out the tile at no cost to us (although admittedly I would have preferred a window!) With that in mind we knew the only cost for us would be swapping out the lighting, hardware and faucet and then adding a shelf so with just those little inexpensive changes we were able to make the kitchen feel a lot more our style!
Here is what it looked like the first time we saw the house:
And here is what it looked like after we made some changes and added the shelf:
And here it is now all decorated for Christmas:
Well, that’s it for today! Hope you all have a lovely evening!
