Last winter we did a little hot cocoa station and it turned out to be such a hit with our family that we did it again this year. I love it because it’s decorative but we also use it regularly too and the girls think it’s so much fun!  This year we had to move our mirrored chest out of the living room to make room for our tree. I thought it would look pretty against the wallpaper in the dining room but wasn’t sure it would fit or how it would look with our farmhouse table. Well, it ended up fitting much better than I thought it would and I loved how it looked with the wallpaper. I decided to make a chalkboard with a rustic frame to help balance out the look with the farmhouse table. I will have a tutorial for making the chalkboard ready soon.
Before I had time to write on the chalkboard I put up this simple noel sign.

Here you can see how it looks with the wallpaper. I hadn’t finished decorated the other sideboard yet when I took these pictures but I have since so I will photograph the whole room hopefully at some point this week.
And here are some close-up shots:

The straws are from The Tom Kat Studio

The little spoons are from The Tom Kat Studio as well. Lillie is fascinated with them. The mugs were a gift and are from Burdick Chocolates in Walpole, NH.

I hope you all have a lovely Monday! We will be back tomorrow with a new product!

  1. Oh Jenn, I love this! The rustic juxtaposed to the more formal wall paper is perfect. Nice job! How did you learn to write like that? Have a blessed week!

  2. Looks so nice and love the chalkboard you made. When you do a post about making it can you add how you do the writing? It looks great and would love to hear how you did it !! Thanks for sharing all your Christmas decorating projects.

  3. I love the jars with the vintage lids! Where did you get them or how did you make them?
    Everything is AMAZING!

    1. Yours looks lovely, Andrea! Yes, I do use chalk pens. I have to say for the most part I haven't had much trouble with them but I know a lot of people who have. I think possibly some chalkboards are more porous than others?

  4. Hot Chocolate & Dear Lillie… what could be better? 🙂 The new rustic chalk board looks beautiful! It plays well with the wallpaper. Every detail is spot on!!

  5. Oh that is a great idea, I love it! (I'm going to have to make my own Chcolate Bar) And it looks fantastic! Can't wait to see the rest of the decorations. donna 🙂

  6. AWESOME..I did a coffee bar last year..It too was a hit..I am in love with paper straws and got mine at Target..Have a wonderful day..Oh..Really like the chalkboard too..

  7. So fun! I love your blog; thank you for sharing you beautiful home. The font/writing that you use on chalkboards and your products is so beautiful, how do you achieve writing like that – particularly on chalkboards? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family! – Jen

    1. Lots of practice! =) I've been playing around with my handwriting since first grade. For most of my chalkboards it's just my regular cursive handwriting and then I add a few more swirls and thicken some of the lines a bit.

  8. That is the perfect hot chocolate bar. So fun for the girls. I would love to sit and cozy up with a cup of hot chocolate, a chunky knit throw and a good book. It looks so yummy and welcoming. Your new chalkboard looks lovely against your pretty wallpaper.

  9. Ever since I saw your hot cocoa station last year, I have been wanting to do one.. now I am going to make on this weekend.
Thanks for the inspiration… I am afraid the chocolate chips will be eaten before anything else though… hahahahaa
    Cheers, Gee

  11. Jenni, it all looks delicious! And that chalkboard. . . oh my word. I love your chalkboards!

It's cold and rainy here tonight; some hot chocolate would be just what the doctor ordered!

  12. So adorable! I also love the rustic chalkboard with the "fancy" cabinet. I agree with a previous commenter that the chocolate chips would be gone way too fast. Am also wondering if those big marshmallows are super huge, or it just looks like it?

  13. You are soo talented. Everything you do looks perfect! I want a hot chocolate station too. Now , if I just had your mirrored buffet. Your house is so gorgeous. I wish you had a shop nearby and sold everything you make and I could just purchase all of it.(chalkboard complete with writing and all the rest) Can't wait to see more pictures. Have u ever sold that little white star pillow?

  14. Hi- I love the cocoa station! I was wondering what is in the larger jar toward the back by the big marshmallow jar? It looks like cocoa mix or something but it seems you have that in a smaller jar up front…

    1. Thanks! They are both cocoa mixes. The one in back is regular swiss miss hot cocoa and the one up front was a "fancy" more grown-up kind that has another flavor mixed in.

  15. I love your blog so much. I have 5 little boys (an 8 year old, 5 year old triplets and a 3 year old) and I love looking at your blog to get ideas. You are so creative! I wanted to know if you could tell me the maker and name of your beautiful wallpaper. I would love to put it in my home, it is gorgeous. Thank you for your time.
    -Susan

    1. Oh my goodness! You had five boys in five years? And three of them are triplets? I can barely stay sane just trying to keep up with my two little girls. Haha! I ordered the wallpaper from American Blinds and Wallpaper online although I originally saw it in a book at Lowe's. I cannot for the life of me recall who makes it but I know that Amy at Maison Decor used the same pattern (but a different color) in her dining room as well and I am pretty sure she could tell you who it is made by and the name of it.

      Have a lovely weekend!

  16. I am simply enthralled with your chalkboard works of art, just wish that
you could make a transfer "or something" so that we could copy it onto
our chalkboards. I simply do not have the beautiful handwriting that you
    do. Love, love, love it…….

  17. I did a hot chocolate bar last year for Christmas Eve and my nephews loved it. My little girl was too young to really have fun with it, but I think this year she will really love. I'm going to upgrade us with some fun Christmas/wintery mugs, and get some peppermint sticks too.

  18. So very warm and inviting. What a great idea that just spells C-O-Z-Y!!!
LOVE it. Happy Christmas to you and your loved ones.

  19. What did everybody use for the hot water needed for the hot chocolate? All I have is a coffee maker. What did all of you use
