Well, Jason’s kitchen and dining room are for the most part finished – yay! (For those of you that are new here Jason is my brother who runs Dear Lillie with me). We still plan on adding a storage piece to the dining room, some artwork and possibly a rug but all of the big projects are officially done. We’ve done a few things to his living room and the girls’ room and now with the kitchen and dining room out of the way we are excited to be able to start on the hallway, Jason’s room and the extra little room, and then hopefully make more progress on the living room and girls’ bedroom. We will be getting to work on those later this summer and I can’t wait. For now though I want to share all the before and afters of what we’ve done in the kitchen and dining room.

We stuck with a basic black, white and gray color scheme for the whole house which works well for Jason year round and then when the girls’ and I are up there we can add in more feminine touches like flowers and dishes. I think it goes without saying that Jason doesn’t go out and cut fresh flowers every morning – haha!

(And just to warn you this is a very picture heavy post – I tried to take photos from pretty much every angle of both of the rooms. I know I love seeing a full space when I am looking at rooms online).

  1. It looks absolutely perfect Jennifer! love all the lighting you busy chose and the way you painted the doors black, I'm seriously considering doing that in mine. New follower here 🙂

  2. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! It's so well styled! Quick question about the faux Roman shades– how did you mount/ install them? I'd love to do something similar to this in my own kitchen. Thanks!

  3. Oh my goodness! You know about Lola Rue's? I need to make a run over there! I love the lantern over the table…along with everything else! And I REALLY like the sign!

  4. Oh … this is exactly why yours is a blog that I faithfully follow. The befores/afters are stunning and perfectly exhibit your skills as a talented blogger/decorator. I absolutely love your style! The "In Christ Alone…" sign is really special and I am already checking to see if there is a place for it in my home. It is my truth and would be something wonderful to see, and be reminded of, every day. Destiny

  5. I'm repeating what others have said. This is just gorgeous!! Couldn't be any better!! The sign is my favorite song and I just listened to it tonight. So want to get that sign. Can't wait to see the rest. Hurry, (ha, like it's all you have to do), and get it done, so we can enjoy the beauty of it!!!

  6. Wow! I love every little detail. I also have black interior doors, and noticed what looks like a crystal knob on one of the doors. I have searched for crystal knobs but found them to be too expensive for all the doors I have. Do you mind me asking where you found yours?

  7. Lucky Jason! The space is beautiful! I love everything about his space! I hope that you guys have a wonderful summerM

  8. Classic, timeless, gorgeous, restful…all these adjectives and more. I like how all you have to do is add some fresh flowers, when you are there, and it adds a feminine touch. I noticed the stone wall outside the dining room window; so classic New England. Once again, everything you do comes out beautifully! Cindy

  9. Just have to take a moment to comment on your work. I love Jason's home — what a complete tone of peaceful elegance. I'm seriously thinking about changing the background of my home over to the grey tones.

But I want to add a note about something else. About a month ago, when you were running a sale on the blackboard prints, I purchased 2 and put them away for gifts. This past week an elderly friend was in the hospital with unexplained weakness in her legs — she literally couldn't stand up. She was very discouraged, and the doctors didn't know what was causing the problem. I took your print "But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me" and put it in an old wooden frame, and gave it to her at the hospital. She said that being reminded of how the Lord actually stands with her gave her the motivation to do therapy and try to walk again. Thank you for sharing from your heart — thank you for using your wonderful talents to bless so many lives — and thank you for working so hard at all the things you do.

    1. Dear Leslie,

First – I am so sorry I am just now seeing this. I missed this comment somehow. Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing that about your friend. I am so glad it was able to bless her. I pray she continues to regain her strength.

      Warmly,
      Jenni

  10. I love what you have done with his home. It's amazing how a sticking with a restrained palette can make even simple furnishings look so polished and pulled together. I'm looking at the pictures and then the source list, and everything is from everyday places–not designer exclusives. Great job–makes me want to repaint a few rooms in my home. I looove grey!

  11. This all looks fantastic. Beautiful. I want those shades too.really like the floor. It looks like real wood.

  12. love everything you do~! wondering if your ikea table is extended (to 84 inches?) in this picture? thinking of purchasing for our everyday eat in kitchen. have you liked it? does it seem to be holding up.

    1. Thanks, Sara! Yes, the table is at the extended length. My brother lives here (I just visit), but so far I think he's been pretty pleased with it.

  13. Just stunning! We are finishing our basement and I have chosen BM Revere Pewter for all walls BM Simply White for trim and crown molding. Any suggestions for what color I should paint the ceilings?? Should I go with Simply White or will that be too much with the trim/crown already being that color? What color are the ceilings in Jason's Kitchen? Thanks for any help!! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Maria! I would recommend using Simply White for the ceilings as well, but in a matte or flat finish. I don't know the color of his kitchen ceiling (the color was here when he moved in), but we used Simply White for his dining room ceiling and we both like the way it looks.

  14. Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful photos showcasing all your hard work. I would be interested in knowing which colour of white you used on the kitchen cabinets and what kind of paint finish as well. Many thanks ~ Cari

  15. I love the lighting in this room. I am having trouble finding the chandelier on fairway.com. Can you tell me the name or brand so I can find it. Thanks!

  16. I love this kitchen! We are in the process of redoing ours and like the look of no backsplash. Did you just caulk between the wall and counter to prevent water from getting behind the counter? Thanks!

  17. Love love love the grey kitchen cabinets so much I chose this for my new remodeled kitchen but unfortunately I got short changed by my contractor and hasn't finished by putting in my countertops thank God I chose someone different to do my cabinets well I have a new floor and a new wall my new cabinets but no countertops I wanted a cement white grey marble countertop like the one you have here but he wanted to charged me more for that color! !!! he said that color would cost more he's already taken most of our money and no countertops I told him I need my kitchen finished because of my diabetic paraplegic son I need a kitchen to cook! !!! It's been 2 months living without a kitchen so I'm desperate to find a good countertop that's not over priced would love some kind of idea on price any suggestions thank you
