I didn’t do a whole lot for decorating for fall in our family room because it is the room we spend the most time in and the room where things get moved around the most (for instance the coffee table often gets it’s items pushed to the side so Lillie can color or we can snack and things like that). I did add a few autumn touches though.

Thanks to Marian, also known as Miss Mustard Seed, I finally decided get a tripod. I have been saying I was going to go get one for a year now and even though I knew they were super cheap (mine was $16) and that it would just take a few minutes to pick one up for some reason I just never got around to it. Well, I finally got one and it made such a huge difference in shooting this room. The pictures are still a little blurry as I still need to work out a few kinks but the lighting is soooooo much better!

This is the same wreath I made this spring that you can see in this post. I just pulled off the nest and glued on two little white pumpkins and acorns and then tucked some feathers in behind the pumpkins.

Also, after getting some requests for the houndstooth and plaid pillows I made for our living room we had some more made for our shop. There are limited quantities of this pillow cover and although we hope to make more we are currently working on very large batches of Christmas pillow covers (both the Silent Night and Holy Night square as well as two new designs) and also some more Give Thanks ones so once these sell out it may be a while before any more of these get made.

Also, for those of you interested in lots more photography tips I highly recommend visiting Miss Mustard Seed and Funky Junk Interiors. They both have had some fabulous and very informative posts lately full of great tips!  (I linked to specific posts I think you all will find helpful but both of their blogs are FULL of inspiration. I am warning you, if somehow you haven’t been there before, you will spend hours looking around!)

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

  1. I agree, the subtle touches make a big impact, your room looks very nice. I also saw the post from Marian, I bet stores are a little low on tripods after that, I also picked one up this weekend, can't wait to try it out soon. Love your floors by the way.

  2. Thanks for the tour. I love your living room. I thought you already used a tripod. Been using mine most of the time. I read Scott Kelby's photography book and he tells you that you should try to always set the iso on 100 for tack sharp photos which means any little move will blur so you have to have a tripod. Mine was cheap, too.

  3. Love your living room! Gorgeous!! I see you changed out your sofa and coffee table…did you do this for the fall or had you already made the change? I am amazed by how much you seem to get done with two small kids. I have two young boys and they keep me hopping. Also, do you have a shop in Williamsburg or do you just sell online? Love seeing your posts of your rooms as it always give me inspiration…keep it coming! Angie

  4. Your family room is gorgeous! I too often don't have much on my coffee table, as my munchkins are usually using it. In fact, I've given up putting anything on there at all!

  5. Your family room is beautiful! I always feel so inspired after looking at your photos. You are a natural at design, Jenni! I am SO upset I missed out on ordering one of the houndstooth pillows. I wanted one of those so badly! Being on the west coast with the time change others beat me to the punch. Those are wonderful fall/winter pillows.

  6. Love it all. Want the wreath, wish you sold them. The jack o' lanterns plants are beautiful. Are they real? Do you make the zebra pillows? Love everything. Your family room looks amazing. Donna

  7. Oh WOW!!! Just came across your blog and you are truly an inspiration…I am a designer, home renovator, love taking photos but most importantly a mummy of 2 teenagers…. It is early morning here in Aus and after looking at your blog I know today is going to be a wonderful day…Thank you for the beauty, inspirational sayings and the simply magical eyes of your little girls to start my day..Love c xoxo

  8. Your home is stunning, as usual. 🙂 I love how you decorate so 'simply' and it is still absolutely…magical! 🙂 Love your taste in design. 🙂

  9. Your home is lovely. I just discovered your blog and I am enjoying it a great deal. Would you mind telling me the color of the living room paint in your old house, that was featured in HGTV? Also the color of white on the mantel? Thank you!

  10. Very pretty! I absolutely LOVE your style! I'm just scared to death of the light-colored furniture with two little boys {and a hubby}. Can you say, MESSY! 🙂

  11. okay now seriously Jenni, Your house is ridiculously gorgeous! I LOVE your new fall set up and the pillow is too adorable. What I want to know is where are the huge piles of toys and sippy cups and cheerios all over the place?? I mean seriously every single room in my house is a disaster area:)

  12. Oh such eye candy!!! I love it all. Every last bit of it. I use a tripod often when I shoot. One tip to help with blur is to set the 10 second timer. That way you aren't moving the camera at all as it starts to shoot the picture by pushing down on the button. I could seriously look at pictures of your home all day long! Beautiful!

  13. Gorgeous! I just love peering through your home admiring all the details. 🙂

And thanks so much for the mention! Wow… I wouldn't think you'd need my photography advice with what I see at all! 🙂 You're so sweet.. .thank-you!

    Donna

  14. I am getting so inspired after seeing what you have done…like the feathers…love that

    I too have a tripod but haven't used it – now I think I will…
this past weekend was amazing…wish you were here!!

  15. Thanks, everyone!

Kim – I am with you – I almost always shoot with my ISO at 100.

Angie – thanks so much! Hmmmm – I think you may be getting this room confused with another one, perhaps? The sofa and coffee table have been in this room since we moved here. We actually had both of them at our last house as well. Maybe they just look different in different lighting? We just have an online shop right now. Maybe someday we will have one here in Williamsburg =).

Anonymous – I got the ceiling lantern a few years ago from a lighting shop in Florence, SC. I don't remember the name of it. =( Sorry, I wish I had a better memory for that kind of stuff. I feel like the older I get the worse I am at remembering those kinds of details.

Thanks, Donna! The jack o'lantern plants are from Pier 1. I think I got them around three years or so ago. I am not sure if they still have them or not. I did make all of the zebra pillows in our home. I made them all for our last house but because they are in neutral colors they have worked well in this house too.

Jeanene – Thanks! Ahhh – is it awful that I can't remember for sure? I think it is "Rustic Taupe" by Benjamin Moore. It's number 999. I used that for something in out last house but I can't remember if it was this room or not. I don't know the color of the white. It was already that color when we moved in.

Hanna – Haha! Don't worry, our house often has toys and food and just a general mess all over too!

JemsMom – Thanks! I will have to check that out!

Thanks Andrea! I don't have a tutorial for it but I was inspired by this tutorial at Jones Design Company http://jonesdesigncompany.com/decorate/ruffle-wreath-a-tutorial/ It is a little different but has the same general idea.

  16. Hi Jennifer, I kind of have a strange question for you. Do you get all your feathers from your parents farm or do you purchase them? I absolutely love their look. Their colors are beautiful. Have you ever thought about selling bundles? I haven't seen them in any of the shops here in AZ.

I discovered your blog recently and absolutely love scrolling through the pages. What an inspiration. You have a great eye for color and composition. Thanks for sharing.

  17. Angela – My Dad collects many of the feathers from turkeys that shed on his lawn. However, I have gotten a few from a place called "Savvy" here in WIlliamsburg. I got them about 3 years ago, so I'm not sure if they still have them.

  18. I absolutely love your home and the thoughtful way you decorated it for fall! I love the branches and the wrath hanging on the mirror! I found your blog via Kirsten's and I am your newest follower! 🙂

  19. Your home is absolutely stunning! It is so warm and welcoming. I can't wait to look around your blog some more. I'm your newest follower:) I hope you'll stop by The Corson Cottage sometime. Carrie
