I haven’t done any decorating whatsoever out on the porch yet but we did plop our furniture into place that first day and so far every single night since we moved in we have eaten our dinner out here so I figured I would show you how it looked. I really loved our last porch but have to say I think I like this one even more because the layout allows us to move around more and it has screens on three sides vs. just the one side at our last house. In just the two weeks or so that we’ve been eating out here we’ve already seen deer, rabbits and lizards (and a snake too, but that wasn’t while we were eating). Once we are settled I look forward to adding some more decorative touches out here.

All the beautiful hydrangeas are from my Aunt Patty. She used them at the rehearsal dinner at the wedding we went to a couple of weekends ago and I, of course, jumped at the chance when she asked me if I wanted them afterward and drove a whole carload of them back to Virginia with me! =) They lasted for two weeks! I was so sad when I  finally had to toss them right before we got in the car to head up to NH. I will miss them when we get back. =(

And here you can see the back side of our house. There will be some painting happening on the outside of the house too at some point. Well, if I can ever get the inside finished. =)

I hope you all are having a lovely Monday!

  1. What a beautiful spot to enjoyy the summer, and such a great spot for the girls to play too! We also have a screened porch and have enjoyed many meals out there as well. Are you woried about the wood furniture and the rain? Hopefully the wind doesn't blow it in to hard. Enjoy!

    1. Thank you! We had those same pieces out on our back porch in our last home for five years and they have held up pretty well. We've had to touch up the paint here and there but that's about it!

  2. That shady backyard there? That is the PERFECT spot to grow your own hydrangeas! They like mostly shade with a small dose of sunshine. Pick a wet spot if you have one (I used a leaky spicket to my advantage…it only drips when it's on, but it gives a good soaking to the hydrangeas). I planted regular and French (looks like torn or ruffled edges and deeper blue-purple). I also recommend an ever blooming one. Once you plant one, you will want more!

  3. Drooling over all the blue hydrangea. My bush is doing a great job of keeping me with at least 6 mops at a time in the house without the bush looking naked.
Your new porch is so pretty!! My son's home is right up on a preserve and they see a lot of bunnies, deer and the sort in the late afternoons. We are 1 street away, and see some but not as many as they do.
Enjoy the process of decorating anew!!
    Exciting (albeit) tiring times ahead!

  8. Oh Jennifer, what a wonderful setting! What a lovely place to have morning coffee/tea! I am sure the girls love it as well. The lawn is beautiful.

  10. What a beautifully wooded backyard you have. From someone who looks at nothing but chain link fence on three sides… I'm green with envy. Enjoy!

  11. What a beautiful backyard and porch!! I am just curious, how does the wood furniture hold up in humidity and rain? It is so pretty!! Love your style!

  14. So pretty!! I have a feeling this porch will definitely get a lot of use from your family. I can see spots around it that you could plant some hydrangeas of your own.

  15. We love our screened porch, too! We have been living in our house for about 6 weeks now. It is in a very wooded area like yours, too.

  16. Your new home is beautiful! I love your screen in porch, we just moved into a new home recently and it has a screen in porch. I love how you put inside furniture in your screen in porch, I showed it to my husband and he likes it too and we are thinking of doing it too. The only concern we have is will the furniture start to warp from the outdoor environment? Have you done something to your furniture so it wont get damage from the air and moisture from the air?

  17. Wow you have done so much work already (I'm reading backwards from today!), love all your choices. We just closed on our new home last week and are having the interior painted as well-deciding on colors now, ugh! But, the exterior looks very similar to yours-reddish/.orangish brick with gold/khaki looking siding and trim. Mine is driving me nuts-I have black shutters too-they matched the siding and trim to the mortar color exactly so everything looks so similar. I am thinking a couple shades of taupes would look great, what are you thinking for your exterior? I'd love to know as it's so similar!

    1. Congratulations on your new home! We are hoping to paint our house in two phases – the first one we will paint all the trim to a creamy white color and the shutters we are thinking something dark but with some depth to it – maybe either a dark charcoal or possibly even a really dark navy (right now they are maroon which is my least favorite color of all!) Then some day we would love to either whitewash the brick or possibly even paint it a pale gray like this: http://pinterest.com/pin/203436108140638170/
