Puff Pastry Hearts

Good evening! I  hope you all are having a lovely week so far. We’ve made a couple of batches recently of these puff pastry hearts filled (some filled with chocolate frosting and some with Nutella) and they’ve been a huge hit so thought we’d share them here on the blog as well seeing how they make a great little Valentine’s Day treat. They are really quick and easy to make.

Puff Pastry Hearts

INGREDIENTS:

Puff Pastry (we’ve tried a few but like this one best)
1 Egg
Sprinkling Sugar
Sprinkling of Confectioners Sugar
Nutella or Chocolate Frosting (We really liked the Nutella ones but LOVED the ones with frosting and will probably just make them that way from now on although if we were short on time would make the Nutella ones because they were still really good!)

If using CHOCOLATE FROSTING here is our favorite RECIPE:

1/2 cup (1 sticks) butter or margarine
2/3 cup Hershey’s cocoa powder
3 cups powdered sugar
2 Tbsp – 1/3 cup milk (this just depends on the consistency you want your frosting – I tend to use less milk)
1 tsp vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS for FROSTING: Soften the butter. Stir in cocoa. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk and beat on medium speed. Add more milk if needed (I don’t usually use even close to the amount of milk in the recipe). Stir in Vanilla. Makes about 2 cups of frosting.

First I  used some heart shaped cookie cutters to cut the puff pastry sheets into hearts:Puff Pastry Hearts

Then I  used an egg wash and brushed that over each heart and sprinkled some sugar onto that.

Then I cooked them according to the directions on the Puff Pastry packaging and for one batch I cut them in half and spread some Nutella on them:

And for another batch I put some homemade frosting (recipe above) into a pastry bag add just poked that into the center of each heart and added the frosting that way:

And lastly I  dusted them with confectioners sugar for a finishing touch: Puff Pastry Hearts

Here are the Nutella filled ones:

And here are the ones filled with chocolate frosting (which were our FAVORITE and will probably be the only way we make them in the future! They were DELICIOUS!) Puff Pastry Hearts
