Lola and I are still up in NH so I just thought I would pop in with a quick post because I am not quite done working on a couple of my decorating ones. Tomorrow I will have a post that shows our autumn chalkboard, a new sign and a downloadable print and then Monday evening I will show you either our living room or porch decorated for autumn depending on which post I can get finished up first. For today, though, I thought I see if anyone had any fun ideas for Halloween costumes? Do any of you already have your kid’s outfits ready to go?
Lillie is really getting into the idea of picking out a costume. It’s so cute listening to her tell us all of her ideas. She’s spent days looking through the different magazines and we have a few options we are pondering. I don’t have any photos of her first Halloween on this computer but she was a little dalmation. Then her second Halloween she was a little Pocahontas. Thanks to Pinterest we’ve been getting quite a lot of e-mails about how
to purchase this costume. Unfortunately it isn’t something we sell. My
mom made Lillie the cute little tutu and then bought her some adorable
little moccasins (which you can’t see in this picture), and then I just
added some fringe trim from Joann’s around her arms and waist. For her
hair I just put a stretchy tan headband on and tucked some real turkey
feathers my dad had found into the back of the headband. Then Lillie
added a few marks on her cheeks and she was ready to go! I wish I had
taken some “real” photos of her in this costume, because it was my
favorite, but at this age Lillie was NOT a fan of taking photos so I
only got a few snapshots of her walking out the door to the car.

Last year both Lola and Lillie were Strawberry Shortcakes.
We got the hats on Etsy and my mom made them their tutus. I can’t remember where the tights were from but it was some costume website and we just cut and sewed Lola’s down to the right size.

That Pocahontas costume is so sweet, and those are the cutest little Strawberry Shortcakes ever 🙂 I'll have to keep Strawberry in mind for my girl this year, she has become obsessed with her. I still can't get the theme song out of my head!
enjoy these years when they want to wear sweet, cute costumes =) This year, my 8 year old is desparate to be a vampire. Last year she was a peacock, but hated every minute as it wasn't a scarey costume lol.

Jemma has decided to be a Native American princess! She has already found the costume in the Chasing Fireflies catalogue! Once she sets her mind to it, she doesn't waver! I loved the Strawberry Shortcake outfits last year! The girls were precious!

Our youngest daughter is Lillie's age. Last year she was the cutest pumpkin with a self made tutu dress and cap. I posted pictures here http://weissbunt.blogspot.de/2011/10/tutorial-kurbiskostum-teil-ii-kleidchen.html . This year I'll be making an owl costume for her. Her older sister  (7) wants to be a pretty witch. She's already asked Daddy to get her a particular costume on his next business trip to the US ;-). One year I made my granddaughter a ladybug outfit. It came as a kit from Martha Stewart. Maybe MS's catalog was still published. My daughter had a short black dress for her already and we used black tights and shoes. The lady bug wings were red felt which I'm sure you can find a template or draw one. Then I cut out black spots and glued to the wings. Her hat was black and had two antenna's with round black pom pom on them. So cute! Your children are so cute! Really, really like your blog and your style of writing and decorating!
My daughter is going be wearing the pottery barn kids cupcake costome with pink thighs and red glitter shoes!! I got it really cheap after halloween last year. Question: Where did you get the bird pictures in your dinning room? Love those!!

Yeah before Paris wore your Audrey tutu, I made her witches hat and she had some black Joyfolie boots, last year I made her a black tutu dress and made her into Holly Golightly from breakfast at Tiffany's. This year I'm clueless but Paris has been doing the same thing, going through all the magazines and can't decide on what princess she wants to be this year…..

The rush of memories of when my little girl was Pocahontas. I never thought of the tutu…her costume was very similar to cousin Lauren…they might be the same age now!!Hee! My niece is head over heals into Fairies maybe you can look that route for some inspiration. -Monica
These strawberry shortcake costumes are adorable! I, too, made a Pocahontas costume for my daughter. I saved fabric from all of her little smocked dresses, halloween costumes, school play costumes and used the scraps to make a heart-applique quilt for her. Oh yes, one year I made a butterfly halloween costume with the wings were pink and yellow. The fairy costume idea mentioned above is great especially for tutus – Tinkerbell comes to mind. Or, what about little elf princesses (Lord of the Rings-ish) – white or pink capes with fur along the edges and little hoods to pull over their cute little crowns (I think you made some really pretty crowns from crocheted lace?).

Thank you! Hmmm…it's been so long I don't remember. I would guess just cream leggings or tights? Or it may have been warm enough for just bare legs.

How did your mom make the tutu? It doesn't look like the traditional cut tulle and tie around a band. Yours looks more full and poofy.
She did make it the traditional way but she always uses really nice tulle and makes them extremely full!
