Good morning and Happy Sunday! Today I am excited to share the full post with all of the details on the playhouse that we helped decorate at my mom and dad’s house this summer. Yesterday I shared some details on the kitchen area so if you have any question about that you can click here.

For the past several years my parents have been planning on building a playhouse for all of their grandkids. After looking into having a custom one built there were a few drawbacks so they ended up deciding to go with a shed instead of playhouse with the plans to decorate the inside to be a playhouse. This ended up being more cost effective, allowed for a larger space for all of the girls to fit in and it goes beautifully on their property and matches the style of their house. I mentioned this in yesterday’s post as well, but the size has been so wonderful! All of the girls can play in there together and Lillie even slept out there on our last night. It’s such a great space not only for the younger cousins to play in, but also a fun hangout space for them as they grow! For privacy reasons I didn’t photograph the full view of their property but the shed really does go beautifully with their New England home and their overall style. This ultimately was a great solution for them and it’s such a fun surprise when you open the door to what looks like a shed and instead find a playhouse inside:

Here are some before shots of what it looked like before it was painted and we got to work decorating it:

and here’s that same corner after:

Here’s a before of the right side:

And here’s an after (although this was taken with a wider lens):

We added this great little fan to the ceiling. My dad had two main requests – first that we had to have a ceiling fan and that the chairs we chose for the reading area were rattan. Although I wasn’t opposed to a ceiling fan, being that they live in New England, I didn’t really think it was that important or would really be needed. Well, I was wrong. I can’t tell you how much I ended up appreciating that fan! It was in the 90’s while we were up there and I don’t think I’ve ever been more happy to have a ceiling fan while I was out there working and I know the girls appreciated it too! The days I spent out there working on some smaller projects before the fan was installed it was like a sauna! Ha!

And now:

I think my absolute favorite addition to the playhouse were these little wooden chairs around the table that we got from our sponsor, Wayfair. They are the cutest kid’s chairs and really well made! I absolutely LOVE them! We also added this fun round table but it came about two hours after I took the photos so for the photos I borrowed my sister’s very similar round table. The advantage of the one we ordered is that it is made from metal so is GREAT for a playroom or playhouse because it’s so easy to wipe down and keep clean. Then we added a plug in light above the table and a bear framed canvas we already owned and that finished off that corner! My mom sewed the roman shades to match the skirt she sewed for under the kitchen sink. I love the finishing touch those add!

We wrote all about the kitchen area in this post but I have to say the mini fridge is probably the biggest hit out here with the kiddos!

Our girls love writing on chalkboards and whiteboards. The easel we have in our home is probably this single most played with “toy” we’ve ever owned so we knew it would be fun to add a little whiteboard/chalkboard area to one of the corners. We hung a large one on the wall and then added a standing one as well. Below that we hung four little clipboards which they take off the wall and loved using. They are great for playing “waitress” over on the other side of the playhouse and also a fun way to display their drawings! To the right of that we hung three little baskets that hold chalk, dry erase markers, an eraser and some fun pencils. Above that is a little piece that holds paper and above that is a little caddy full of crayons. For accessories we hung the swan that used to be in Lillie’s room, a pineapple garland and flower garland all which help add a whimsical touch to the space.

Back in this corner we have a little reading area that is also a nice spot for the adults to sit when we are “allowed” in – haha! We initially considered going with some inexpensive upholstered pieces out here that you could curl up in but my dad preferred we go with a non-upholstered style and we really liked the price and style of these ones so we ordered them! We added some cute pillows and a throw as well as a little pouf all from HomeGoods and then we found this cute little table at Target. Above that we hung a story that my sister, Jamie, wrote and Lucy from Craftberry Bush illustrated (we sell the prints here).

Here are some wider shots:

Well, that’s it for the playhouse! I am so grateful to my mom and dad for creating such a fun place for their granddaughters to enjoy  (and maybe someday a grandson) and for letting me help decorate it! I want to play out there now!
