January is always a bit of a strange month when it comes to decorating. Once all of the Christmas decor is put away it always feels a little bit barren but it’s a little too soon to add any spring or summer touches. I left our cozy knit and fur pillows and throws as well as our pom pom wreath for now seeing how they are nice additions in this winter weather, and then we added in some more cheerful touches to our mantel using some fresh seeded eucalyptus bouquets and some tulips from Trader Joe’s to help make it feel a little less gloomy even though it’s still quite cold and dreary outside.

I know to a lot of people it will seem pretty crazy and pointless so I won’t bore you with all my reasons for painting this room again. Ha! As I mentioned earlier this week. I rather spontaneously decided to repaint all of the trim, doors, windows in our kitchen/family room and back hallway and then also painted the walls.
Yesterday I posted about the new sideboard we made for the kitchen and thought today I would share more photos of it in the overall space as well as a few updated photos of the other side of this room. We spend most of our time in this room and love the open feel of it.
I shared our kitchen makeover last week so thought I would share the minor changes we made on the other side of the room today. We didn’t do a whole lot but we did change up a few things. First, because we added the bar overhang to the counter and some stools that meant we moved the table over about a foot and because of that the wire chandelier didn’t work as well so I took that back down and moved it out to the porch.
I’ve been wanting to add some of this seafoam color in here for quite a while now. I figured I would wait until after the holidays once I was ready for some cheerful spring-like touches. One of the things I love most about sticking with a neutral palette is that it is so easy to switch around a few pillows or accessories and get a new look.
Because I am not quite ready to take photos yet in the rooms I am working on upstairs, last week I went ahead and took photos of how the rooms looks downstairs now that the Christmas decor is all put away. It always seems a bit sparce at first but it also feels nice to have a clean slate.
