On Thursday we made Valentine’s Day cupcakes for Lola’s class. I had thought we might make some red velvet ones with cream cheese frosting for a festive feeling but she very specifically requested yellow cupcakes with chocolate frosting. Haha! So, we made some nice basic yellow cupcakes and then dressed them up a tiny bit with some different swirls and little embellishments on top. We figured the chocolate kisses and hearts were nice and kid friendly and the teachers would like the Ferrero Rocher hazelnut balls.

Here is the recipe for the frosting:

1 cup (2 sticks) of butter or margarine

1 1/3 cup Hershey’s cocoa powder

6 cups powdered sugar

2/3 cup milk (I actually don’t always end up using all the milk)

2 tsp vanilla extract

Soften the butter. Stir in cocoa. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk and beat on medium speed. Add more milk if needed (I don’t usually use even close to the amount of milk in the recipe). Stir in Vanilla. Makes about 4 cups of frosting.

Here’s a little video where you can see how easy these are to create:

For these ones we used this 4B star tip and then topped the cupcakes with these hearts (and we also got some of these ones too) and then added some simple gold sprinkles.

For these ones we used a 2D flower tip and then added some chocolate kisses and gold sprinkles.

And then finally for these ones we used a basic 2A round tip and then added some of these Ferrero Rocher hazelnut balls.

And there you have it! A nice and easy way to dress up basic cupcakes!

I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!
