As I was scurrying around getting ready for our photoshoot last month there were a few projects on my list that my mom and sisters helped with. One of the things I really wanted to make for the little tree in Lola’s room were these little stars. My mom had made some for her tree using a tutorial from the gorgeous blog Modern Country and then made some for Lola (or I guess really me)…=) I put some on her tree but then decided it might be cute to hang some from the ceiling to balance the other corner that has the hanging branch. And even though the tree is obviously gone now I kept these ones hanging in her room.
My sisters also helped me out. I STILL hadn’t covered the euro inserts that were at the back of the daybed. You couldn’t really tell in photos but it was always driving me crazy in real life. It was on my list of things to get done before the shoot but I couldn’t decide what to make and then Dana sent me a picture of ones she had made for her new apartment. She told me she had just used a throw from Ikea and cut it up to make several new shams for her large pillows in her bed. They were perfect! I was running out of time so my sister Jamie made them for me! Because the fabric was stretchy they were a little annoying to work with but I LOVE how they turned out.
Also, we are excited to introduce our first new spring pillow cover today!

I love the touches in the nursery. In fact, I'm going to need to try to find that blanket at Ikea and make some pillows up =) I'm all about nursery's right now, just putting on the finishing touches on ours (I'm due any day). I've been thinking about some sort of decor to hang from the ceiling. Pom poms? Branch sprayed white with butterfly cut outs hanging from it? Something similar to your stars….it soooo beats the plastic, flashing, loud, irritating toys that are available commercially that are not only ugly, but I feel they can over-stimulate the baby (at least for new borns =)

I have two of those throws and LOVE them! WHat a fantastic idea to cut them up for pillows. Did they unravel when you did? I know you mentioned the stretchy fabric was annoying but wonder if there were any other bumps in the road… I will go back and read it again! Marcy

A local shop owner in our small town put me onto your blog a few weeks ago. I wish you could see inside my house (maybe I'll put some pics on my blog soon) this is EXACTLY my decorating style. We have so much in common. Creamy whites, neutrals, feminine but in a non-fussy way, and slightly minimalist. We live in a small old house that we have remodeled, with our 5 kids, three of them boys, and I've learned to find a look that is comfortable and beautiful, without all the fussy accessories that make it hard to function with a big family. I have a question that is unrelated to this post: I've been wanting some wingback chairs that are small enough to use as the end chairs for my dining room table–similar to those in your family room. Searched the blog to see if you've gotten this question before, so sorry if you get it all the time…but wondering where you got them…and if you think they'd be small enough to use as dining chairs. Thanks so much! I got the chairs at a store called Savvy here in Williamsburg (they are made by Lee Industries). Technically they were listed as dining chairs, however I think you would have to have a huge dining room/table to make the work proportionally.
