Our Updated Dining Room with a New Farmhouse Table and Rolling Shelves
I won’t bore you with lots of words on this post seeing how my last post was quite wordy for me. =) Basically here is the progress we’ve made so far on our dining room. I’d like to get two more of the oval chairs to use where the bench is and just move the bench somewhere else and I’m still pondering wallpaper or at least painting the walls a charcoal color but haven’t gone ahead with that. And as I mentioned in the Rolling Cart post a couple of days ago I’d like to eventually find a hutch for in here and move the rolling cart up to my office. Other than that though, it’s really starting to feel so much more finished.
In the photo below you can see the wallpaper I am thinking about going with:
 
Here’s a close-up of the wallpaper. I think it would help keep the room from getting too feminine.

  1. It looks great! I can't believe you made the table. I was just looking at a much simpler plan to build a replica of a restoration hardware coffee table and I'm still trying to decide if I can do it. I love those World Market oval chairs. I have one in my office and would love to have them in my dining room, too. I think the wallpaper would look great!

  4. Love the soft gray! I, too,painted my livingroom and hallways with just a touch of gray. I, also, stripped wallpaper to do this and , at this point, will never wallpaper again!! What a mess!!!!

  13. Perfect thanks so much!!! Did you just use a rag to apply?? Looks like the gray is stronger in some areas, just wondering if you had a technique applying it. Also did you just use a mate finish??? Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!:)

    1. Hi! Yes, we just used an old t-shirt to apply the stain. We haven't added any wax coating or anything like that yet so it still appears pretty matte.

  27. Hello! My Husband just built the same table! We are in Canada, and having a hard time finding the stain you used. Was it interior or exterior and what store did you purchase them at? I appreciate it~ Thanks!!

    2. Thanks so much for sharing! Would you mind detailing how you stained the table (how long you left each color on before wiping off, etc.)? We've tried a few test pieces and can't seem to get the same look as yours.

    3. I pretty much just wiped the gray coat on and then very lightly wiped it off. Then I put on the coat of provincial right after. I'm not sure how you are supposed to do it but that's just how I always do it because I'm impatient 🙂

  28. Love your hard wood floors. It states you used peel n stick from Lowe's? Are you pleased with these and their hold up with wear n tare?

  31. Beautiful! I noticed that the Allen & Roth bead board wallpaper has a soft and spongy texture. The sample at our Lowes had a number of indentations and scratches on it. Do you find that it shows markings easily?

    1. Thanks, Kim! Our guess is that its designed that way to soak up the paint. We've seen a couple of minor scratches on the paper in our guest room but none on any of the paper downstairs.

  33. Haha! I'm a little late to the party, but I just found this on Pinterest. I really like how everything ties together. My wife and are looking at doing a kitchen/dining room overhaul. I'll have to show her this as I I mentioned building the same table but she couldn't picture it the way I was trying to describe it. Excellent!

    1. Thank you 🙂 Honestly, I don't know what we used, but I would guess Pine because thats usually what Lowe's and Home Depot have the most of.

  36. Stunning! Doesn't look DIY; looks like it is out of a high fashion magazine. How hard is it to maintain an open shelf concept? I feel like the plates would get dust on them.

    1. Thank you! Jenni says if you use them regularly you shouldn't really have to worry about it, but if they sit for a long time you may want to dust the top ones every once in a while.
