I won’t bore you with lots of words on this post seeing how my last post was quite wordy for me. =) Basically here is the progress we’ve made so far on our dining room. I’d like to get two more of the oval chairs to use where the bench is and just move the bench somewhere else and I’m still pondering wallpaper or at least painting the walls a charcoal color but haven’t gone ahead with that. And as I mentioned in the Rolling Cart post a couple of days ago I’d like to eventually find a hutch for in here and move the rolling cart up to my office. Other than that though, it’s really starting to feel so much more finished.
In the photo below you can see the wallpaper I am thinking about going with:
Here’s a close-up of the wallpaper. I think it would help keep the room from getting too feminine.

  1. It looks great! I can't believe you made the table. I was just looking at a much simpler plan to build a replica of a restoration hardware coffee table and I'm still trying to decide if I can do it. I love those World Market oval chairs. I have one in my office and would love to have them in my dining room, too. I think the wallpaper would look great!

  2. Jennifer, beautiful as always! I can't believe you made the table AND the rolling cart! You are a dynamo. With two little ones no less. Your chandelier is gorgeous….I love how the crystals "flow" from the top, so pretty.

  3. It looks beautiful ! Love the table and rolling cart. May I ask what colour you used to stain your banisters? I'm looking to redo mine. Thanks for always inspiring me!

  4. Love the soft gray! I, too, painted my livingroom and hallways with just a touch of gray. I, also, stripped wallpaper to do this and , at this point, will never wallpaper again!! What a mess!!!!

  5. Such a beautiful room! I love the table and cart. And I love the bench with the table and the other chairs…it is a so pretty I'd leave it–but four of those lovely chairs will look amazing and you do know how to create a beautiful home…

  6. I just love your dinning room, absolutely stunning!! I had my husband build me the exact table, I'm scared to stain it the wrong color!! Do you mind sharing what color you stained your table with!! I love looking at your picture such inspiration!! Thanks

  7. Perfect thanks so much!!! Did you just use a rag to apply?? Looks like the gray is stronger in some areas, just wondering if you had a technique applying it. Also did you just use a mate finish??? Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!:)

    1. Hi! Yes, we just used an old t-shirt to apply the stain. We haven't added any wax coating or anything like that yet so it still appears pretty matte.

  8. I love it all! I've had those printed directions for that table for a while now. Someday it will be built! Do you mind sharing the info for the wallpaper? Loved that, too!

  9. I LOVE all of those snazzy items, especially the olive branch wreath. One of my favorite pieces from birch Lane is the Henderson Chair.

  10. I love your dining room and style in general. 🙂 I tried to find the source of your chandelier in the hallway, but was not able to locate it. It is beautiful…would you mind sharing? Thanks so much!! Julie

  11. Hello! My Husband just built the same table! We are in Canada, and having a hard time finding the stain you used. Was it interior or exterior and what store did you purchase them at? I appreciate it~ Thanks!!

    1. Thanks so much for sharing! Would you mind detailing how you stained the table (how long you left each color on before wiping off, etc.)? We've tried a few test pieces and can't seem to get the same look as yours.

    2. I pretty much just wiped the gray coat on and then very lightly wiped it off. Then I put on the coat of provincial right after. I'm not sure how you are supposed to do it but that's just how I always do it because I'm impatient 🙂

  12. Love your hard wood floors. It states you used peel n stick from Lowe's? Are you pleased with these and their hold up with wear n tare?

  13. We are preparing to build this table, did you alter the size of the plans? What is the length of your table. Your have truly inspired me! Lovely home!

  14. Beautiful! What are the dimensions of your dining room, ceiling height as well? I too, wish to build this table and buy these chairs. The scale of your room helps me see how it will fit in mine. Thanks for your inspiration!

  15. Beautiful! I noticed that the Allen & Roth bead board wallpaper has a soft and spongy texture. The sample at our Lowes had a number of indentations and scratches on it. Do you find that it shows markings easily?

    1. Thanks, Kim! Our guess is that its designed that way to soak up the paint. We've seen a couple of minor scratches on the paper in our guest room but none on any of the paper downstairs.

  16. Haha! I'm a little late to the party, but I just found this on Pinterest. I really like how everything ties together. My wife and are looking at doing a kitchen/dining room overhaul. I'll have to show her this as I I mentioned building the same table but she couldn't picture it the way I was trying to describe it. Excellent!

    1. Thank you 🙂 Honestly, I don't know what we used, but I would guess Pine because thats usually what Lowe's and Home Depot have the most of.

  17. I love your dinning room chandelier but I am unable to find it. Do you happen to know the manufacture or name of the chandelier? Thanks!

  18. Stunning! Doesn't look DIY; looks like it is out of a high fashion magazine. How hard is it to maintain an open shelf concept? I feel like the plates would get dust on them.

    1. Thank you! Jenni says if you use them regularly you shouldn't really have to worry about it, but if they sit for a long time you may want to dust the top ones every once in a while.

      -Jason

  19. Your home is beautiful!
Can you please tell me what exposure your kitchen is and also your dining room? (North, South, East, or West?)
    Thank you!
