Today I am going to share some mood boards for our guest room with twin beds. One of the spaces I was quite sad about leaving in our last house was the guest room (and a guest bathroom attached to it). After having had the two houses prior to that (Our first North Carolina House and last Virginia house) not have a guest room at all it was so nice having a proper space for our family to stay in when they were visiting! We had been very fortunate to have two guest rooms way back in one of our Virginia homes (you can see those guest rooms here and here, and what the second one turned into here), although eventually Lillie and Lola wanted their own rooms and Lillie ended up in one of the guest rooms. Then, as I mentioned above, in our next Virginia house and first North Carolina house we didn’t have a guest room at all. We really like having a comfortable place for family to stay when they visit so we were quite excited about that fact that in our Ohio house we were going to have two guest bedrooms again.
One of the guest bedrooms is in the basement and has a full bath adjacent to it so we figured the one would be ideal for adults staying with us and therefore we pretty much just moved the bed, bedding, and lamps from our last guest room right into that one but now we have a whole empty bedroom to decorate and make up for our guests upstairs. We figured when our family visits (we’ve actually already had family from both sides visit which is so nice!) the adults can stay downstairs and then the kids can stay up in the guest bedroom on our floor so we decided to go with twin beds for the upstairs guest room with that in mind. We actually had some family visit just a couple of weeks after we moved in so I quickly ordered two twin beds and then I’ve got one of Lillie’s old desks in there but that’s it. It’s a nice blank canvas! (Well, a very pink blank canvas – haha! The walls right now are bubblegum pink!) I’ll try to share a picture of video in the next day or two in our instagram stories of our starting off point.
So my next two projects are tackling this upstairs guest bedroom and our primary bedroom. I may kind of work on them at the same time while I decide on and then wait on light fixtures to arrive and decide on some of the elements for each of them. The plan for our main bedroom is to do picture molding and paint and then use all our existing furniture although I may mix some of our bedding up a bit depending on what paint color I choose. You can see our same furniture we’ve used in our last two bedrooms here and here and we moved all that stuff with us again so it’s mainly just paint and the light fixture that will be changed up in this house.
Then for the guest bedroom I already have the twin beds so those are the same in all of the mood boards below. And I am planning on using a desk we already have so the desks are on here just for the sake of showing different color options based on what I choose for the wallpaper. Basically the two main things I am deciding on right now are which wallpaper to use and then which light fixture and then the other things are just to kind of visually give a feel for the overall look. I initially was leaning towards the navy blue plaid wallpaper (which I think is the third mood board) but because I think that is the look I am going to use in our loft area which is going to be sort of a game room/library I think I am going to wait and use that wallpaper in that space or that navy plaid pattern in some way so now I think I leaning between one of the first two options.
Now for the mood boards for our guest room with twin beds. First up is this traditional style tree motif wallpaper. I love all three colorway options of this paper and am itching to use it somewhere in our house so the guest bedroom seems like a good option.

Next up is this brown and black plaid which I absolutely love! I really want to use this paper somewhere so if I don’t end up using it in here I may end up using it in our bathroom or maybe in the guest room in the basement or possibly even in our entryway if the paper I am planning on using I change my mind on – haha!

This navy plaid was what I was initially leaning towards but now think I’ve ruled out because I think I am going to use it in our loft. I love it so much!

I think I have ruled this one out but not because I don’t love it! I do, I just don’t think it’s the look I want for this room but I would really love to find a spot for this in our house. Possibly our main bathroom or the powder room downstairs!

This is the same as above but with a different light fixture. I prefer the light fixtures in the first couple of mood boards but I’m not sure they are quite as big as I’d like so this one below is a slightly better size and also a really great price so I am considering it although I like the look of the other ones a bit more, so I haven’t decided which way to go on that yet.

That it for the wallpaper options of our mood boards for our guest room with twin beds. I also played around with an option to just paint and although I am definitely not opposed to that I am really itching to use some wallpaper again. I still did a quick mood board though with a paint option (I’d probably use something like Benjamin Moore’s Blue Note or maybe even as dark as Nightfall) and then pull in some plaid with a chair or the pillows or bedding. However, I don’t think I will go this route. I’m definitely leaning towards one of the first two at this point.

Well, that’s it for today! Time to get working on these rooms which starts with painting both rooms and then adding board and batten to the lower half of the guest room and picture molding to our room…the boring not so fun part! Then once that is done it will get a bit more fun!
Warmly, Jenni
