Jamie and Josh’s Dining Room Swap and New Harvest Sign
I have shown you quite a few pictures of my sister, Jamie and her husband Josh’s house in the past and have shown you their dining room on several occassions. This summer, they decided to switch things up a bit. They really wanted to move their den to where their dining room was and move the dining room to the den. They thought about the pros and cons of it for a while and then finally decided to give it a go and it turned out to be a fabulous switch! When I got to their house I was so excited to see how great it looked. I am going to show you the dining room today and then will show you their den next week (I haven’t ever shown any photos of their den before so I cannot wait to show you those!) For today, though, I am going to show you the dining room.
We went to a new shop while we were antiquing in Peterborough called Collections at Laurel and Grove that is my new favorite little shop! I loved EVERYTHING in there! Jamie got this three tiered piece that I am completely in love with. If she ever gets sick of it I am first in line for it. I had lots of fun styling it.

 This harvest sign is now available in our shop!
The draperies are from IKEA and Josh made the table top! The chairs are from a consignment shop that Jamie painted and recovered. The cups, saucers, and plates are from Pottery Barn’s Emma Collection.

I think this will look so pretty in the fall with white pumpkins and gourds filling out some of the tiers.

We are hopefully going to have some of the vinyl silhouettes available later this week!

This side of the room is still kind of temporary. Jamie has some plans for possibly replacing the sideboard on this wall and doing something with the wall to the left of this (which is now empty)that I will show you in more detail when they are done.

We also plan on having some of these embroidery hoops available later this week as well.
About an hour after I took these pictures Jamie and I ended up playing around some more with the layout of the room and ended up moving the table to one side of the room and adding a bench from their bedroom. It’s not quite the right size and the back is too low but overall we liked the look of it being different from chairs. Next time I go up to NH we will hopefully be able to get the room more finished and I will take some more photos.

Also wanted to let you all know we just retocked our 12 by 16 Give Thanks pillow covers for the upcoming fall season!

  3. I love it! I love the nature inspired elements in both your sisters and your homes. I do have to say that I love the sideboard, and would vote to keep it. Of course, I'm not in the room to say if the scale is right, but it looks gorgeous in the photos! I've said it before and will say it again, you are so luck to have a sister(s) who shares the same interest in home decor!!

    Could you or your sister do a tutorial on how to refurbish chairs? I've always wanted to – and love how hers came out!

    1. I've been looking for new dining room chairs for a while now because mine were $6 and were in horrible shape. They've worked fine for these past 4 years but it's time to get something more sturdy so as soon as I find some while if they are ones I can do I tutorial on I will try to! So far I haven't had any luck yet although I've been scavenging our consignment shops and craiglist.

    1. Oh have you seen it???? We haven't yet. We've seen a proof that they e-mailed us but haven't seen the actual magazine yet. I am getting so excited and so anxious!

      The bucket is from White Home Collection in Wilton, NH. Jamie and I both got them last summer…or maybe even the summer before.

  16. I am doing a similar chair project and was wondering where Jamie got the fabric for the cushions? I found a source myself, but I was really hoping to find something less expensive.

      I bought the fabric at New England Fabrics in Keene, NH. It's a little more expensive, but Ballard Designs sells pretty much, if not exactly, the same fabric:

      Maybe that is where you already found it. I would google document or script fabrics; you may be able to find something similar that is less expensive.

  18. Jennifer, This room is just beautiful! It is so tranquil, I just love it. Please tell me what paint and shade of white you used to paint the chairs. I have similar chairs and want to paint them, just wasn't sure what to use. So glad you shared this!

  21. its just beautiful Jennifer! and totally makes me so ready for the change of the seasons. We are still in full blown Summer here (Texas) and will be for a while. Its this time of year that makes me miss Pennsylvania so much! We only lived there a short time but I fell hard for those awesome Autumn days & nights.

    When you recovered the chair seats, did you take the old fabric off, or did you just put the new fabric over the old?

    1. Hi Jillian,
      I did take the old fabric off. Those were the first chairs I ever recovered and I wanted to do it right. I have since covered a seat before leaving the old fabric on, though, and I don't see any difference. As long as it doesn't show through and doesn't smell mildewy or anything, I say go the easy route! 🙂 The most important thing I found is that you need to pull the fabric as tight as you can, so it doesn't wrinkle when you sit on it!

    1. No, I didn't, and they definitely do mark up a bit. If you don't feel like touching them up every now and then, you might want to put something on them. A little bit of scuffing doesn't bother me, so I haven't bothered touching mine up yet, and it's been a couple years!

  26. One more question for Jamie-
    When painting the chairs, did you use a small roller or a paint brush? When I painted my chair, the brush marks from the paint brush seemed very visible and made it look like I did a sloppy job.

    1. I used a paint brush for the first coat, and a sponge brush for the second coat. I do usually use just a regular paint brush and Benjamin Moore paint and have never had a problem with leaving stroke marks after the second coat. You can definitely leave marks if you don't wait long enough for the paint to dry between coats, but other than that I'm not sure–maybe try asking the paint department at your local hardware store?
