Good morning! Today we wanted to share a fun little kitchen are we made for my parent’s playhouse and then tomorrow or Monday we will have the full playhouse post up. My parent’s added this shed to their backyard earlier this summer so that it could be used as a playhouse for the grandkids. All six grandkids so far are girls so we knew we could go a little more on the girly side for now. My sister Jamie has a new baby on the way though, so we may have to add some more boyish elements at some point – ha! Because it is a shed vs. a playhouse it has quite a bit of square footage to work with which made it so much fun to decorate and as they grow older it gives them plenty of space to all fit and hangout in. Lillie even slept out here one night!

One of the things our girls have loved to do since they were tiny was to play kitchen (and now mine bake on a regular basis) so we knew that a little pretend kitchen was definitely something we wanted to put in here along with an eating area, reading corner and art corner. For the kitchen area we quickly realized that most of the ready made kitchen playsets were quite small in size and the larger ones were VERY expensive so we decided it would be something that would be fun to DIY so that we could go with a larger proportion but keep the price reasonable. Jamie had a piece of furniture in her garage that was the perfect size so I took off the top part that folded down on each side and then one of the front doors so we could add a little skirt. So here is what it looked like when I was ready to start working on it:

First, I primed the whole piece. I used two coats of primer that way it would help prevent chipping knowing this was definitely going to get a lot of use. Once I was finished with that I added two coats of paint. Then I used a little tension rod and my mom sewed a skirt for under the sink. After that, I used some silicone adhesive and glued the sink we got from Wayfair to the top. I built a little tiny shelf for behind the sink so I could attach the faucet. We ordered an inexpensive faucet off of amazon and then spray painted it gold to match the rest of the space. I did it outside in the dark in a hurry and I have to say  it is by far the worst spray-painting job I’ve ever done – haha! Seeing how it’s just a playhouse though I decided to let it be even though I cringed when I saw it in the daylight the next morning. Then I glued on some coasters to look like little burners for the stove area and that was it!

I initially had thought I would build a little wood fridge to go to the left of the kitchen area but then my dad said we could put a real mini fridge out there! We were not expecting that, but quickly jumped on the idea and got this retro style one from Wayfair which I LOVE! And the girls LOVED it too!

Then the finishing touch to the kitchen area was to add a shelf. We used a piece of scrap wood that my brother had and I attached that to two little wood brackets that I found at Home Depot and painted them to match the cabinet below.

This little bell was quite the hit with the kiddos:

And here are some close-up shots of the accessories we added:

I love this little flower pot we found at the local flower shop – it works perfectly with this maiden hair fern.

Here’s a little peek over at the table area. I’ll have lots more pictures of it in the full post.
