Good morning! I hope you all are having a lovely Saturday! Today I wanted to pop in with the photos of our $400 powder room makeover. I want to preface this by apologizing for the horrible photos in this post. There is zero natural light in this bathroom so it’s nearly impossible to photograph this room, especially because I don’t have a tripod. I really need to get a new one. I took these photos on multiple days in hopes of getting better pics but had no luck. That is why there are three different flower arrangements in the pictures though. Haha!

I have been planning on using this wallpaper in here but haven’t pulled the trigger on it. Other than that the makeover is complete. My goal in here was to do this as inexpensively as possible. I would have loved to have swapped the vanity out for something more custom and done a widespread faucet but those would have made this a much more expensive project so I kept our vanity and just removed the side and backsplash to give it a more custom look and swapped out the existing centerset faucet for one I like more.

Here is a before:

And here it is now:

I changed out the light fixture for a swing armed one. I normally wouldn’t have chosen a swing-arm option for a bathroom, however the electrical box for the sconce is about two to three inches off centered from the wall and mirror (which is maddening!) so going with a swing arm option allowed me to keep the box where it was but kind of trick the eye with the arm and globe of the light.

Also I ordered this navy banded jute rug but it got lost in transit initially so I used this chunky cream rug until the navy one finally arrived which is why there are two different rugs in the photos. The navy one though is the one that is staying in here because it’s a tiny bit smaller and therefore fits the space better.

Here’s a before of the other wall (and yes this was taken when we couldn’t find any toilet paper anywhere – haha!)

Fortunately we did eventually get our hands on some! Haha! Board and batten is one of my absolute favorite ways to add some interest to a space for very little money. It provides a lot of “bang for your buck”.

Here are some shots of the process. I taped the mirror before removing it from the wall because it was glued to the wall and therefore I didn’t want to risk it shattering.

I removed the side splashes first, then the mirror and then the backsplash.

You can see how it requires some patching when you remove those items. I used this spackle and then of course did lots and lots of sanding!

Before I did the spackling I placed the pieces of wood roughly where I  wanted them for the board and batten (and then later based on where I liked them visually I then properly measured it out).

It makes it easier if you paint the first coat of the walls before attaching the boards so I typically do that first.

And here it was once I finished installing the board and batten and had it all painted.

And here are a bunch of horribly lit photos (sorry!) of the finished space:

Although I would have preferred a widespread faucet I love the vintage feel of this one.

ordered these pulls for the cabinet but they were on backorder so added these ones from Amazon. I will probably swap them though with my original plan because those just arrived!

This style toilet paper holder is my favorite because it’s so easy to swap the rolls out so even my kids do it without me having to constantly remind them.
