Tassel Christmas Tree Art Good morning and Happy Sunday! I can’t believe it’s time to start sharing Christmas ideas and decor! Even though I have been blogging for 11 years now I still usually feel weird putting my Christmas decor up early and sharing. This year is the first time ever that it actually has felt wonderful having it up early. It’s been such a long, strange year and having our home decorated right now actually brings a smile to my face as I look around and see the twinkling lights and smell the holiday candles and today I am excited to share a few projects including some tassel Christmas tree art,  Pom Pom Christmas tree art and some Pom Pom stockings.

To kick things off, I am joining a bunch of my blogging friends to share some budget friendly decor ideas for our first Christmas installment of the Seasons of Home Holidays Tour. Today I am going to be sharing a fun little framed tree that cost me $1 to make and some pom pom stockings that cost me $6! First up is this Tassel Christmas Tree art. I saw this idea on Pinterest and fell in love with it. I knew I wanted to make one for each of the girls’ room that went with their decor and then once I had finished making theirs I loved it so much that I ended up making one for my room too – haha! Here is the link to the idea we copied. I found it on Pinterest and the link goes to this great Etsy shop so if you’d rather just purchase one you can here.

To keep this a really budget friendly project use a frame you already own. You can go back to using whatever you usually have in there after the holidays or you can use an old frame that you can easily find at a yard sale, thrift shop or even the dollar store. I have quite a few pieces of art that I love but we don’t have a good spot for in this house so I used some of those frames. I started off by removing the glass. Then I used a piece of wrapping paper we had on hand from last year (we got it here) that coordinated nicely with Lillie’s room and taped it onto a piece of cardboard backing. Then it we popped all of that back into the frame with the matte that was already in there.

Now it was time to make the tassels. For Lillie’s I went with a larger size and basically just wrapped yard around a gift card the long way. I will add a video to our instagram stories showing how we did it and save it under the highlight as well. I made ten of these. It took about ten minutes total and I used about $1 worth of yarn. Then I found a stick outside and glued the tassels and stick onto the background and that was it. The whole project took about 15 to 20 minutes and cost me $1 and I loved how it turned out! For my room I went with slightly smaller tassels by using the shorter side of the gift card to wind my yarn around and made 15 tassels and then followed the same process and here’s how that tassel Christmas tree art turned out: Tassel Christmas Tree Art

In all our rooms I just clipped some cedar branches from our yard to add to the festive touch for free! For Lola’s room I used an old IKEA frame from years ago and I actually took the glass out and spray painted it because I don’t plan on using this frame again for pictures, and then put it back inside the frame behind the matte vs in front of it. Then I glued some little pom poms onto it that I had from a garland. You also can make the pom poms quite easily too. Here is a tutorial we shared a few years ago on how to make pom poms. Then I glued those one along with a stick from our yard and that was it! Our next budget friendly project are these pom pom stockings. I had been eyeing these beautiful pom pom style knit stockings on Anthropologie several years ago but didn’t pull the trigger on them because of the price and now they are no longer available. I started looking for something similar and either they were really expensive or not quite what I had in mind.   I am still on the hunt but in the meantime I found these stockings at Hobby Lobby for $5! I got a pack of pom poms on sale for less than $2 and then used a hot glue gun to add them to each stocking (and still have quite a few left over!) I am hoping to share two more budget friendly ideas this week – a wreath made with real greenery and one made with faux greenery and then I can’t wait to start photographing each of the rooms in our house now that they are all decked out for the holidays.
