fall cake

Good morning and happy Sunday! Today we are going to share a Thanksgiving table setting. Well, it really it could work any time throughout the fall all the way through the entire holiday season. We have another table setting we will share later this week that is a little more of a true Thanksgiving tablescape but first wanted to share this one. For this setting I used all items we already owned and clipped the greenery from the yard (and just added some seeded eucalyptus from Trader Joe’s) and made the cake so it was fun to put together pretty quickly. (You can see some of our previous Thanksgiving table settings here.)

This is not a pear flavored cake because my children would not have eaten that – haha! It was just garnished with a pear on top. It’s got one layer of chocolate cake between two layers of yellow cake and there is a thick layer of chocolate frosting between each layer. Then I made buttercream frosting with just a tiny hint of cocoa powder for the outer layer of frosting to give it that pale caramel color. I used one of these cake scrapers to give it the edge. And then drizzled some caramel on top of that and then made some simple buttercream rosettes with this tip (although I didn’t make it quite as stiff as I usually do on accident and they were a little bit droopy – whoops!) AND PLEASE NOTE: THE BERRIES WERE JUST DECORATIVE! They are not to be eaten. When it was time to cut into the cake I removed the berries and greenery – they were just gently resting on the cake.
