painting granite

This past week I gave our powder room a quick makeover with the goal of spending under $200 while still freshening it up a bit. I plan on changing out the counters (most likely to honed marble) and when we do that I will add some form of trim and wallpaper in here as well. I didn’t want to add wallpaper until we are ready to remove the counters because I didn’t want to take any chance it got damaged when we did the counter swap. I don’t plan on tackling this full makeover until after Christmas at the earliest and I am still really torn on what wallpaper I want to use but this bathroom was driving me crazy so I decided on a whim last weekend to just give it a quick makeover. The only items I purchased for the space were this sconce for $59, this sink for $74, this toilet paper holder for $14, and two cabinet knobs for $2 each from Hobby Lobby. I did purchase a few supplies as well but already had many of them on hand and then for all the accessories like the mirror, artwork, towel, etc. I used items we already owned.

So here is what we had to start with. It’s a nice little powder room with really high ceilings but with the broken sconce, thick-framed mirror and dark faucet, sink and counters I didn’t like the heavy feel of it. Although I typically like darker/moody spaces this one felt kind of dreary.

Now before I show you our quick little inexpensive makeover I thought I would share a few of the wallpapers and other items I am considering for in here (and I will share a few more at the end of the post).

Here is one option:

And another one:

Bathroom Mood BoardPLEASE keep in mind that I did this knowing we will be replacing the counters and faucet down the road! With that in mind, I decided to try painting them. I wouldn’t dare do this if this was a long-term plan or in a space like a kitchen that gets heavy use. But I figured it was worth a try in here. I will keep you posted in a few months on how they are holding up. Same with the faucet! I do not have any false illusions that these will last forever. For now though they really helped make the space feel more like me and I am quite happy with how they turned out. I do think though that there will be some chipping over time. In fact, I will be shocked if there’s not!

So with that being said here is the before:

And here is it now with less than $200 spent on it:

There is zero natural light in here so it was quite hard to photograph so sorry for how grainy the pictures are!
