Good morning. I wasn’t planning on sharing Lola’s room here on the blog because this time around she really wanted to design it herself and it’s not really all that “decorated”. We did give the walls a fresh coat of white paint this past week per her request and I decided sometimes it’s nice seeing a not so decorated kids room, so figured I would go ahead and share it. She’s always had very strong opinion on her rooms in the past and we’ve had fun working on them together. Here was her last room:

And then here was her room before that:

So, as you can see from her past rooms I really love wallpaper. This time around though I couldn’t get her on board so for right now we just painted the walls white. We both do want to add some type of interest on the walls though either with board and batten like the guest room or something similar but we are still working that out. She has an idea I really like but I am still trying to figure out how to make it work with the high ceilings. As someone who loves to work on kid’s rooms (if you scroll down you kid’s room mood boards here), I was itching to add some more interest in here but she really wanted to keep it simple so we stuck with that and she really loves it. Most of the furniture came with us but she did get a new bed. I tried to talk her into a different one because the proportions of this one with the height of the ceilings I figured would drive me a bit crazy (and they do – haha!) but she has been so happy with it. I have always included them and let them be very involved in decorating their rooms but it was always more of a joint effort. Now as they get older I am happy to let them make most of the decisions on their own.
Lola’s closet was a little bit odd in that although it was a nice size it was just a bare space with no real shelves or hanging rod or system in place. When we first moved it we just kind of put an extra nightstand we had in here and one of the cube organizers we had in here and that got us by while I worked on some other projects but then last week we decided to give it a quick little makeover.
I thought about trying to do an IKEA hack and use bookshelves and then trim them out to make them look like a custom built-in, but decided against that because although Lola doesn’t need space to hang things (she only has a handful of items that need to be hung and those have been hanging in my closet since we moved it) future owners might prefer to have it function differently so we just put three $35 Target bookshelves in here and that was the perfect inexpensive solution to helping make it much more functional for her!
