I have always enjoyed getting our pantries organized (you can see some of our previous pantries here, here, here and here) and today wanted to share the DIY Pantry Shelves I did last week for our current home’s pantry.

Here it what our pantry looked like to start with. It was roughly 36″ wide by 36″ deep but the wire shelving only used about half of the depth (actually I don’t even think it was quite half the depth) and the middle bar also prevented being able to fully utilize the space on each shelf.

I removed the wire shelves, patched all of the holes and then painted the walls with paint I had leftover from our kitchen island and our entryway closet makeover. Then I  used some 1 by 2’s and making sure to drill them into studs add them to the back wall and side walls so I could rest some plywood onto them (my plywood was cut to approximately 2 ft by 3 ft to fit the space). It looks pretty ugly to start with:

Then I added a bracing piece in front (that second shelf in the picture below shows that) and then trimmed that out with a thin piece of wood (see that top shelf in the picture below) to give it a finished look:

Here it is with them all trimmed out:

And then lots more painting and here it is:

And now I’ve got so much more storage space in here:

Here’s a little video of the process:

I  ended up with so much more room in our pantry that I    was able to move a bunch of items from this cabinet above our coffee station over the to pantry.

And now I’ve actually got some extra space over here in my coffee cabinet which sure is nice!

I also added a pin board and pins to the back of the pantry door:

Well, that’s it for today! Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend and staying warm. It’s FRIGID here!
