Good morning! Today I want to share with you our Entryway Closet with Storage Makeover. Once the holidays are over I  always like tackling some organization projects. (You can see some of our past organizing projects here, here, here and here). I  tried to makeover most of the main living spaces downstairs in September and October so we could enjoy them for the holidays and now it’s time to start tackling some of the closets down here so we can keep things more organized. My first one to work on was the entryway closet and then next up I plan on working on the pantry. For our entryway closet the first thing I  did last fall was paint the doors and change out the hardware (you can read more about the entryway makeover here in this post).

So this was what it looked like when we moved in:

And here they are now:

Now with the holidays behind us it was time to tackle the inside of the closet. Here it what it looked like after we’d moved in and just kind of dumped a bunch of stuff in here:

We didn’t need for this to function as a coat closet for us. We have another smaller coat closet over by the hall that goes to the garage so we just use that for the few coats we actually have and therefore wanted to use this closet as a place to store all sorts of random things that we use pretty regularly like extension cords, batteries, light bulbs, extra chargers and wall plugs, cleaning supplies, office supplies, manuals and then things like hats, mittens, gloves and scarves.  So, with that in mind, I  decided to get rid of the wire shelving add some more functional storage in here.

First I painted the side walls and then wallpapered the back wall with this wallpaper. I  removed the baseboard on the back wall so I could have the shelving be flush against it and then used two Pax Wardrobes (a larger one and a smaller one). I added drawers and shelves and then trimmed the shelves and sides along with trimming out the drawers with some lattice to make it look more custom and then added some little gold knobs to really make the drawers look more complete. This was what it looked like before trimming it out (you can also see more of the step by step process in making over this closet here saved in our instagram highlights):

And here it is now all finished off:

I’m using the top drawer as sort of a “junk” drawer that holds all sorts of random stuff – these photos only show about half of it, the other half holds a whole bunch more random stuff. I  keep all of my real tools out in the garage but like having a few extra basics like a few screwdrivers and a little hammer handy for when I  just need to grab one really quickly so I  always keep those in our junk drawer.

Entryway Closet with Storage Makeover

It drove me crazy the last few months whenever the doors to this closet would get left open but now I don’t mind!
