Dining Room

Good morning! So this past week I  started some of my first “real” projects in this house in our laundry room and back hallway and as long as I  can get them finished up in the new few days I will share that with you all next week. Until then though I wanted to share our dining room, kitchen and living room where so far we’ve just added our furniture that we moved with us and swapped out some light fixtures to make it feel more like us until I  have time to start tackling some bigger projects in this spaces.  (If you missed it we already shared my office,  Lola’s room, Lillie’s room, and our pool/patio area).

Up today is our dining room. The previous owners used this as a home office (they used both front rooms as home offices, the one we shared a here and then this room as well). We didn’t need two home offices and I like having a formal dining room so we turned it back into a dining room. So far all we’ve done in here is paint the walls and swap out the light fixture. I found this one for just over $100 so it helped keep my little mini makeover in here at around $150 for now. Eventually I will move this light fixture up to our loft area and will go for a little more of a statement light fixture in here along with wallpapering the walls (ideally I would like to use this mural, or this one but still deciding on that).

Here was the room when we moved in:

And here it is now using all of our existing furniture and accessories and then spending around $150 on paint and the light fixture:

When I first saw these built-ins I planned on ripping them out because they alter the room quite a bit (it makes it so you can’t fit a very big dining table in here and makes the proportions of the room off-center). However, now that we have lived here for a little over a month I have to say they do come in very handy! We each have a “locker” and it is so nice having a place to stash away backpacks, lunchboxes, and just miscellaneous extra stuff so…..now I  am not quite so sure about ripping them out after all. Function may end up beating our form in this situation…

As soon as I finish up our back hall and laundry room makeover this front entry space is next!

Well, that’s it for today! I’ll be back next with our kitchen!
