Coastal Teen Bedroom

Good morning! Today I wanted to share with you the progress we’ve made in Lillie’s room. Last week we shared Lola’s UNC Tar Heel themed room and today we have Lillie’s Coastal Teen Bedroom. Back in November we installed this Palm Tree Mural from our partner, Olive et Oriel. Then we took a little break from working on her room because there was so much going on with the holidays (although we did have fun decorating her room for Christmas even though we weren’t done making it over). Lillie’s rooms have always been lots of fun to decorate. She’s had a wide array of different looks over the years. You can see the room she and Lola shared when they were little here, then her room with bunny wallpaper here, and next her gingham wallpapered room here, her room in our rental here, then her aqua room here, her New York skyline room here, and her Central Park room here (yes, we have moved ALOT – haha!)

This month we got back to work finishing up her room. Last year for spring break we went out to the west coast for the first time as a family and we all fell in love with it! When the people who purchased our home this summer also asked to purchase all of Lillie’s bedroom furniture she was excited about the thought of being able to do a room that had a California type feel to it! She did some searching online and immediately got her heart set on this mural as the main inspiration for her room. So with that as our inspiration and the main focal point we got to work adding interest to her room.

Here is what her room looked like when we moved in:

She really liked the wood slat accent wall we added to Lola’s room and wanted to do one in her room too. We decided hers would work well to the right of her window because her window isn’t centered on that wall and we figured it would kind of help balance that wall out a bit. We stained the wood in Lola’s room to coordinate with her stained basketball hoop but for Lillie’s we didn’t add any stain because the natural wood matched her furniture better.

I don’t have that same angle in an after shot but this is similar:green doors

Lillie wanted to use the color mint as much as possible in here. Originally we thought we’d paint the walls a pretty mint color but once she decided on the mural and we hung it we figured it would be better to paint the walls a pale blue that we tried to match as closely as possible to the background color of the mural. Because of that we decided to paint all her doors a minty green and then added a green quilt, a mint colored alarm clock  and I painted a green painting for above her desk so that helped bring the mint color into the room.

Then we added some fun elements into the room like the surfboard pinboard, the shell and pineapple pillows and the shell chandelier.

The Pom Pom twinkling lights were a fun little addition to the little wall when you first walk into her room (you can see that better in our instagram highlights).

Here’s a little video of the process:

This desk took a while to put together but we are really happy with it. It has a good amount of storage and goes nicely with her room. I did switch out the knobs that came with it to ones that I had leftover from our entryway closet makeover.

I got some frames from Target and then found some cute Etsy prints (here, here and here) and that was an inexpensive way for us to add some fun art to her walls.

Well, that’s it for Lillie’s Coastal Teen Bedroom. This coming week I’m hoping to start on our guest bathroom and then it’s on to the laundry room!
